University of Salzburg invites applications for a First Stage Researcher (R1) in New Testament studies. The part-time position (30 h/w) is temporary for 48 months, starting March 2027, with a 1 March 2027 starting date and a completion focus on writing a doctoral thesis.

The role requires admission to a doctoral programme and strong German/English and biblical languages skills. Candidates should hold a Master’s in Catholic Theology, show self-management, teamwork, and communication skills, and

Qualifications

• Completed diploma or Master’s degree in Catholic Theology with a good to very good grade, preferably with a thesis in a biblical studies subject
• Admission to a relevant doctoral programme at the University of Salzburg
• Very good written and spoken German, a good command of English, and knowledge of Biblical languages (Greek, Hebrew)

Responsibilities

• Independent research: Writing a doctoral thesis in the field of New Testament studies
• Independent teaching: Preparing, delivering and following up on courses (including examination duties) in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement
• Academic support for the research and teaching activities of the Chair of New Testament Biblical Studies
• Engagement with the academic community, e.g. conference participation, presentations, networking, and academic communication formats
• Attendance at professional development courses, especially on university teaching methodology
