Placements24 is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer for high‑voltage Transmission and Distribution initiatives based in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. You will lead design, development, and implementation of HV infrastructure, ensuring reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance across projects.

You will supervise a team of engineers and technicians, coordinate with regulators and utility providers, and drive projects from concept through commissioning, while managing timelines and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 9 years in electrical engineering with a strong Transmission and Distribution focus.
• Proven experience designing and managing high-voltage infrastructure projects.
• Pr. Eng. registration with ECSA is required.
• Experience in the Eastern Cape (Queenstown) is a plus.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent entity within the Energy sector, is looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in Transmission and Distribution (T&D) systems. This key role, based in Queenstown, Eastern Cape , will involve leading the design, development, and implementation of high-voltage electrical infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of the T&D network, overseeing complex projects from conceptualization to commissioning. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in power systems engineering, coupled with excellent leadership and project management skills. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of transmission lines, substations, and distribution networks.

• Collaborate with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, contractors, and utility providers.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues within the T&D network.
• Conduct site inspections and ensure construction quality meets design requirements.
• Contribute to the development of long‑term T&D infrastructure strategy.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 9 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a strong specialization in Transmission and Distribution.
• Proven experience in designing and managing high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects.
• In-depth knowledge of power system protection, control, and substation design.
• Proficiency in electrical engineering software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, AutoCAD Electrical).
• Strong understanding of grid codes and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is required.
• Experience working within the Eastern Cape province and specifically the Queenstown area is a significant advantage.
