Job summary

dLocal is seeking a Staff Engineer in AI R&D to steer the technical direction for agentic and LLM-based systems. You will join a dedicated AI R&D team, collaborating with peers and business units to deliver reliable, scalable AI capabilities in a regulated payments environment.

You will lead design-to-production efforts, define standards, and mentor engineers while aligning cross-functional stakeholders on priorities and outcomes.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience at senior or staff level.
• 2+ years building and operating LLM-based systems.
• Experience designing agentic or multi-step AI systems with tool use and orchestration.
• Strong foundation in distributed systems and software architecture.
• Cloud infrastructure knowledge, preferably AWS, with secure, cost-conscious design.
• Experience with observability, testing and evaluation of complex systems.
• Disciplined engineering practices: code review, CI/CD, automated testing and controlled deployments.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical lead for AI initiatives from design to production.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define scope and priorities.
• Translate business goals into technical plans and milestones.
• Design AI architectures including agentic workflows and state management.
• Maintain cost control through routing, caching, and context management.
• Lead reliability, scalability and incident learning for AI services.
