Job summary

dLocal is seeking a Staff AI Engineer for the AI Lab to drive technology scouting, rapid prototyping, and rigorous evaluation of emergent AI technologies. You will produce actionable recommendations for engineering, product, and business teams and help define patterns and guardrails for production-ready solutions.

You will build evaluation environments, measure performance, cost, latency, and reliability, and collaborate with security, legal, and operations to ensure responsible adoption.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience at senior/staff level.
• Deep hands-on experience building/evaluating AI systems and LLM-based tooling.
• Strong fundamentals in software engineering and rapid prototyping of experimental systems.
• Experience with agentic/multi-step AI systems using tools, orchestration, state, retrieval or external integrations.
• Proficiency in cloud infrastructure (prefer AWS) and secure, cost-conscious experimentation.
• Observability, telemetry, testing, and benchmarking of complex systems.
• Ability to reason about architecture, reliability, scalability, and distributed components.
• Track record of experiments/benchmarks influencing technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead technology scouting, prototyping, and evaluation for AI technologies.
• Design evaluation harnesses and sandboxes to test models under realistic constraints.
• Prototype architecture and integration patterns for production-ready capabilities.
• Produce concise memos with recommendations and guide hand-offs to engineering teams.
• Collaborate with Security, Legal, Compliance to document risk and governance considerations.
