Job summary

ABB is seeking a seasoned Instrumentation/Electrical Engineer to lead medium-to-high complexity service activities for 800xA safety systems in Oil & Gas, Power and Water sectors. You will execute on-site and remote tasks, plan large-site work, and mentor team members.

With 8+ years in customer support or project/service engineering and knowledge of functional safety standards, you will drive improvements in system performance, cybersecurity, and client satisfaction while identifying

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in instrumentation, electrical, or equivalent engineering.
• Minimum 8 years of experience, incl. 5+ years in customer support / project / service engineering of 800xA safety systems in Oil & Gas / Power & Water.
• Hands-on experience with 800xA based control and safety systems (hardware/software).
• Functional safety knowledge with certifications preferred (e.g., TUV FS).
• Knowledge of IEC61511/IEC61508 and system engineering practice.
• Experience in industrial networking and cyber security for 800xA systems.
• Strong analytical, proactive, and adaptable mindset.
• Experience with Modbus-RTU/TCP and OPC protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex field service tasks and analyze problems on-site or remotely.
• Plan and prepare site work for large projects and manage subcontractors.
• Deliver superior customer service and align work with customer expectations.
• Communicate service timelines and maintain customer satisfaction and retention.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work of medium to high complexity as per work instructions and ABB guidelines. Each day, you will deliver excellent customer service to satisfy customers. You will also showcase your expertise by working with customer to identify opportunities in the installed base, to improve system performance and operational performance.

The work model for the role is: Onsite

This role is contributing to the PAEN-Qatar . Main stakeholders are PAEN.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Performing complex field service tasks, identifies technical problems, and makes analysis through remote or on-site activity in service categories and products for which they are certified to perform.
• Planing and preparing site work for larger project team and manages related subcontractors at site.
• Contributing to customer satisfaction by planning and executing service work as per customer order and expectations.
• Ensuring customer retention by delivering superior customer experience and effectively communicating service work timeline and expectations.
• Taking actions to identify new service business opportunities for ABB, in close cooperation with customer and other ABB teams.
• Coaching technicians and engineers and supervising complex site activities.

Qualifications

• Graduate Engineer in instrumentation, Electrical or Equivalent Engineering degree.
• Must have minimum 8 years of experience of at least 5 years as customer support / project / service engineer of System 800xA based safety systems preferably in Oil & Gas / Power & Water industry.
• Good hands-on experience in system 800xA based integrated control and safety system (both hardware and software) is a Must-have with AC800MHI library-based application development – project & commissioning
• Knowledge of FSMS (functional safety management system) is a Must-have for this role and valid Functional Safety certifications preferred such as TUV FS engineer, ABB certifications etc.
• Knowledge of Functional safety technical standards IEC61511, IEC61508 and corresponding system engineering practice experience.
• Hands on Experience in Industrial networking, network switch configuration
• Hands on experience in Cyber security for 800xA based systems
• Be an analytical thinker, self-starter, resilient and highly adaptable- in line with ABB’s latest advance service & digital portfolio
• Hands on Experience in industrial communication protocols like Modbus- RTU & TCP, OPC, etc.
