Job summary

Prometeo Talent is partnering with a US-based cybersecurity startup to hire a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in startup environments and builds scalable systems using Java and Python. This fully remote role offers ownership and modern AI-assisted workflows.

You will design, build, and maintain distributed services, collaborate with product and engineering teams, and drive architectural decisions as the platform grows across LATAM and beyond.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering or backend experience.
• 5+ years with Python, building production-grade backend systems.
• Strong experience with Java.
• Hands-on AI/LLM-based development in production.
• Experience with AI-driven features and agentic workflows is preferred.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalable architectures, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience working with databases, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Proven experience building, maintaining, optimizing, and improving products after launch.
• Advanced English level.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Python.
• Develop distributed systems involving databases, APIs, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Take full ownership of features and services throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation to monitoring and optimization.
• Build production-ready systems with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Improve system performance, scalability, and operational efficiency across the platform.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while ensuring code quality and engineering best practices.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to key technical decisions as the company scales.
• Continuously improve development processes, tooling, and engineering standards.
