Job summary

Prometeo Talent is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join an early-stage US cybersecurity startup. You will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services in Java and Python, owning features end-to-end while leveraging AI-assisted workflows.

You’ll work on distributed systems, databases, queues, and data pipelines, emphasizing reliability, performance, and scalability in a fast-paced startup environment. Advanced English is required, with 100% remote work from LATAM.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering or backend development.
• 5+ years with Python, building production-grade backend systems.
• Strong experience with Java.
• Hands-on experience with AI/LLM-based application development (AI agents, agentic systems, or LLM-powered applications).
• Experience building AI-driven features, LLM integrations, or agentic workflows in production environments.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalable architectures, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with databases, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Proven experience building, maintaining, optimizing, and improving products after launch.
• Strong ownership mindset, autonomy, and ability to thrive in startup or fast-paced environments.
• Advanced English level.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Python.
• Develop distributed systems involving databases, APIs, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Take full ownership of features and services throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation to monitoring and optimization.
• Build production-ready systems with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Improve system performance, scalability, and operational efficiency across the platform.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while ensuring code quality and engineering best practices.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to key technical decisions as the company scales.
• Continuously improve development processes, tooling, and engineering standards.
