Job summary

Blend is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a distributed, AI-focused engineering team. You will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services in Java and Python, owning features from inception to deployment.

The role emphasizes ownership, reliability, and performance in a fast-paced startup environment. Ideal candidates have deep Python/Java experience and hands-on AI/LLM-based development skills, with strong English and a passion for building robust distributed systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering or backend development experience.
• 5+ professional Python experience building production-grade backend systems.
• Strong Java experience and Docker/Kubernetes in production.
• Hands-on AI/LLM-based development experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Python.
• Develop distributed systems involving databases, APIs, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Take full ownership of features and services throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation to monitoring and optimization.
• Build production-ready systems with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Improve system performance, scalability, and operational efficiency across the platform.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while ensuring code quality and engineering best practices.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to key technical decisions as the company scales.
• Continuously improve development processes, tooling, and engineering standards.
