Description and Requirements

The Team You Will Join

Join MetLife’s Financial Management Group (FMG), a strategic financial engine driving critical decision-making through financial planning, analysis, and risk management. As a member of the team, you'll be involved in topics including financial reporting, treasury, corporate actuarial, tax, investor relations and mergers and acquisitions. Positioned at the intersection of finance and strategy, you'll help ensure that MetLife meets customer obligations while supporting strategic objectives. Develop expertise across disciplines in a collaborative, results-driven environment while maintaining the financial strength and competitive edge of one of the world's leading institutions.

The Opportunity

As an Actuary on the Dental Pricing team, you will play a central role in maintaining and advancing the pricing capabilities that support MetLife’s Dental business. You will own critical pricing tools, systems, actuarial studies, and regulatory deliverables, using your technical expertise and business judgment to influence pricing strategy, financial performance, and customer value.

This role offers broad exposure across the Dental organization and the opportunity to become a trusted subject-matter expert for Underwriting, Product, Contracts and Compliance, Valuation, and other business partners. You will lead work ranging from state rate filings and pricing-system updates to renewal analysis, product initiatives, and actuarial studies. If you enjoy solving complex business problems, modernizing established processes, and translating detailed analysis into clear recommendations, this role provides a strong platform for professional growth and organizational impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and enhance critical dental pricing tools, by recommending and implementing data-driven updates, maintaining sound calculations, clear documentation, and effective controls while identifying opportunities to simplify and automate recurring work.
  • Manage pricing system updates and implementation activities in support of accurate manual and experience rating. Coordinate requirements, testing, validation, communication, and production implementation so that Underwriting has accurate and timely pricing capabilities.
  • Lead recurring financial and strategic analysis, including renewal cycle reviews, experience studies, and data analysis supporting pricing and finance decisions. Translate results into clear recommendations for leaders and business partners.
  • Lead dental regulatory pricing work, including rate filings, Minimum Loss Ratio filings, and other state regulatory requests. Prepare actuarial support, respond to objections, and partner with Contracts, Compliance, Legal, and state regulators to secure required approvals.
  • Serve as a strategic actuarial partner for Underwriting, Product, Contracts and Compliance, Segment Finance, Centers of Excellence, and Valuations. Support product initiatives such as incentive provisions, connected benefits, benefit expansions, and pricing methodology enhancements, while responding to complex business inquiries and emerging priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience with actuarial or financial modeling, large datasets, and analytical problem-solving, including the ability to evaluate results, identify risks, and develop practical business recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with programming, database, or data-analysis tools such as SQL, Alteryx, Databricks, or comparable platforms.
  • Proficiency using AI-enabled tools, such as Copilot or generative AI platforms, to accelerate analysis, improve documentation, automate repeatable work, and support decision-making, along with a commitment to responsible use and continued AI fluency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex actuarial and financial concepts to technical and non-technical audiences and work with external regulatory stakeholders.
  • A proactive, ownership-oriented approach with strong attention to detail, sound judgment, thoughtful documentation, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, finance, or a related field; actuarial credentials or demonstrated progress toward an actuarial designation.
  • Experience with insurance pricing, including familiarity with claims experience, pricing systems, state rate filings, regulatory requirements, and renewal analysis.
  • Experience modernizing processes through Power BI, Qlik Sense, Alteryx, Databricks, AI-enabled tools, or similar data and automation technologies.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries designation.
