Join us as a Senior Design Engineer (Coastal) at WSP in the Middle East

We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer - Coastal to join the WSP Maritime Team in Abu Dhabi, UAE. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing, planning, designing, and executing marine projects both locally and internationally. A strong technical background and a passion for coastal and maritime engineering are essential. The position will primarily support Ports development teams, so familiarity with coastal planning within ports and understanding of port safety considerations are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage coastal and maritime projects.
• Design and review coastal structures such as beaches, groynes, breakwaters, revetments, scour protection, dredging, reclamation, and concrete armor protection.
• Review coastal studies including numerical modeling and physical modeling studies.
• Conduct vessel navigation and mooring studies.
• Assist in coastal planning, including coastal edge requirements, vessel navigation, and marine planning support within port facilities.
• Prepare requests for proposals and scope of work for coastal and maritime projects.
• Review and advise on constructability and value engineering of coastal structures.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, authorities, third parties, and stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and project delivery.
• Mentor junior staff in coastal and maritime engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering, coastal engineering, or related field.
• Chartered status or working toward chartership with ICE or similar body.
• Minimum 10 years of coastal engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a similar role in the UAE.
• Familiarity with UAE maritime regulations and industry practices.
• Experience with numerical modeling of coastal processes, CFD, physical modeling, and mooring analysis.
• Experience working on port development projects.
• Extensive design experience focusing on marine and coastal projects.
• Deep knowledge of coastal engineering principles, environmental regulations, and sustainability practices.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of local and international environmental standards relevant to marine and infrastructure projects in the UAE.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities.
