The Challenge & The Opportunity

The digital asset ecosystem, a multi-trillion dollar market, is expanding rapidly, outpacing the insurance industry's ability to provide sophisticated risk mitigation. Currently, only 1-2% of crypto assets are insured, highlighting a significant gap due to lack of expertise, capacity, and tailored products. Soter aims to fill this gap and shape the future of risk management in finance. Backed by industry leaders like Galaxy Digital, Further Ventures, and WebN Group, and regulated by the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), we develop innovative insurance solutions, including hybrid USD-BTC policies and ETH denominated slashing coverage.

As an Underwriter at Soter, you will be part of a lean, skilled team at the intersection of technology, finance, and regulation. This role offers an opportunity to analyze unprecedented risks, understand complex systems, and contribute to building foundational insurance products for the digital asset economy.

Your Role in Building the Future

You will provide analytical support and drive underwriting strategies, with core responsibilities including:

1. Portfolio Management: Manage and optimize underwriting for D&O, Professional Indemnity, Crime, and Slashing insurance products.
2. Develop Methodologies: Lead evaluation and underwriting of large-scale risks involving custodians, exchanges, hedge funds, and staking providers.
3. Design & Innovation: Contribute to new product development to reduce protection gaps and enhance trust and safety.
4. Market Building: Establish relationships with brokers, clients, and partners to position Soter as a leader in digital asset risk.
5. Risk Analysis: Evaluate risks of digital asset clients and collaborate with financial institutions to create mitigation products.
6. Technical Due Diligence: Conduct forward-looking risk assessments based on clients’ technical stacks, custody, governance, and compliance.
7. Market Intelligence: Analyze data to identify emerging risks in DeFi, Layer-2 solutions, and custody services.
8. Documentation: Prepare and review policy documents for various insurance products, ensuring accuracy of hybrid USD-BTC-ETH policies.
9. Process Monitoring: Oversee submission pipelines and liaise with brokers to gather due diligence materials.
10. Solution Support: Assist in creating quotes, proposals, and risk assessments for digital asset risks.

Desired Skills

• Underwriting Experience: Minimum 3 years in Financial Lines (D&O, E&O, Crime) or similar, with ability to pivot to digital assets or fintech.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Experience with frameworks like BMA; professional designations (CPCU, RPLU) are preferred; familiarity with bodies like VARA is beneficial.
• Curiosity: Passion for understanding digital asset risks; relevant certifications and research are highly valued.
• Systems Thinking: Ability to craft holistic solutions for complex, interconnected risks.
• Communication Skills: Strong leadership and technical communication with clients, CTOs, auditors, regulators.
• Attention to Detail: High standards of accuracy and organization.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; programming and AI skills are a plus.
