Role Context
The Workshop Supervisor provides hands-on leadership for daily heavy-duty truck maintenance and repair activities in Dubai. The position ensures workshop resources, technician expertise, parts availability, and service priorities are coordinated effectively so vehicles return to operation safely and without unnecessary delays. Strong supervision directly influences repair quality, technician utilization, vehicle uptime, workshop profitability, and the overall customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily workshop activities covering heavy-duty truck servicing, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and mechanical repairs.
- Assign repair orders to technicians according to workload, technical expertise, urgency, and expected completion time.
- Monitor active jobs throughout the repair cycle and address technical or operational delays before they affect delivery commitments.
- Balance workshop capacity and technician utilization to maintain productive workflow across service bays.
- Support labour and parts sales targets while maintaining required revenue and gross margin performance.
- Review repair and service reports for accuracy, technical completeness, and proper documentation.
- Carry out or supervise quality inspections before completed vehicles are released.
- Ensure maintenance and repair work meets applicable technical, quality, and safety requirements.
- Guide technicians through complex diagnostics, fault identification, repair procedures, and preventative maintenance requirements.
- Supervise mechanics, technicians, service advisors, and apprentices during daily workshop operations.
- Coach workshop personnel on technical standards, productivity expectations, quality controls, and safe working practices.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings relevant to workshop activities and current operational risks.
- Enforce health and safety requirements and ensure unsafe conditions or practices are addressed promptly.
- Track job completion, workshop downtime, resource utilization, productivity, and vehicle turnaround performance.
- Prepare daily and weekly operational reports for the Service Manager.
- Communicate delayed repairs, technical challenges, capacity constraints, and other workshop concerns to relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate with procurement and parts teams to minimize delays caused by component or spare-parts availability.
- Work with fleet and customer service teams to prioritize urgent breakdowns and vehicles with critical operational requirements.
- Investigate recurring repair delays, quality concerns, and workflow bottlenecks and implement corrective measures.
- Support prompt resolution of customer concerns by providing accurate technical and repair-status information.
- Maintain an organized workshop environment centered on safety, quality, efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Ideal Profile
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in heavy-duty truck maintenance, servicing, repair, or workshop operations.
- Previous experience supervising technicians, mechanics, service advisors, or apprentices within a busy automotive workshop.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of heavy commercial vehicle mechanical systems and repair requirements.
- Proven diagnostic capability with the confidence to guide technicians through complex faults.
- Sound understanding of preventative maintenance programs and structured workshop repair processes.
- Experience conducting repair quality checks and maintaining technical workmanship standards.
- Strong awareness of workshop health and safety procedures.
- Ability to allocate workloads effectively while managing multiple repair priorities and demanding turnaround targets.
- Commercial awareness of labour productivity, parts sales, workshop revenue, and gross margin objectives.
- Capable of responding effectively when urgent breakdowns disrupt planned workshop schedules.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop technical personnel.
