Subsea Engineer in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy engineering role focused on subsea design, installation analysis, SURF projects, pipeline systems, risers, subsea structures, umbilicals, technical reports, design calculations, and offshore project support. This role is suitable for an engineer with oil and gas experience who can apply subsea engineering knowledge, industry codes, installation analysis software, and practical judgment to support project design, procurement, installation, and technical documentation.
The Subsea Engineer will support subsea engineering and installation analysis activities for offshore oil and gas projects. The role involves performing engineering analysis, preparing technical reports, supporting tender engineering, reviewing vendor and subcontractor documents, coordinating with project teams, and assisting with design and installation solutions for subsea equipment. The successful candidate will work with lead engineers, design teams, operational engineers, subcontractors, verification bodies, and project stakeholders to ensure subsea deliverables meet client requirements, safety objectives, industry standards, and project schedules.
- Perform installation analysis for SURF projects using industry-standard subsea engineering software.
- Provide specialist engineering support in subsea design, installation engineering, and subsea analysis activities.
- Apply relevant design codes, standards, and engineering procedures to subsea project deliverables.
- Coordinate daily subsea engineering activities and support schedule priorities for assigned project work.
- Support tender engineering activities including document review, subcontractor document preparation, cost time resource input, bid evaluation, and vendor selection.
- Assist subsea projects with requirements related to procurement, design, installation engineering, and technical analysis.
- Prepare technical reports, design calculations, engineering analysis, and supporting project documentation.
- Interface with third parties including subcontractors, verification bodies, vendors, and technical reviewers.
- Attend and prepare for project progress meetings, engineering reviews, and departmental coordination meetings.
- Follow company safety, legal, HSE, TQM, and cost-control objectives during engineering execution.
- Train and mentor graduates, trainee engineers, and junior team members when required.
- Support the development of design and analysis knowledge within the subsea engineering discipline.
- Understand client requirements and develop practical engineering solutions that satisfy required codes, specifications, and project expectations.
- Take ownership of assigned design, analysis, technical documentation, and engineering deliverables.
- Liaise with operational engineers to support project engineering requirements, site visits, fabrication yard visits, or offshore trips when necessary.
- Develop working knowledge of McDermott business units and interfaces across engineering, fabrication, marine, and project functions.
- Use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other standard productivity tools to support engineering reporting and documentation.
- Understand and apply company standards, engineering procedures, project specifications, and discipline requirements.
- Capture project lessons learned and enter them into McDermott's Lessons Learned system.
- Participate in internal, customer, and third-party technical audits related to engineering deliverables and vendor documents.
- Support proper handover of work when reassigned to other departments, construction sites, fabrication yards, or project teams.
- Assist colleagues and project teams during workload peaks, vacation coverage, illness coverage, or urgent project requirements.
- Learn and apply future working methods, software applications, and engineering tools required for subsea project delivery.
- Bachelor's degree or master's degree in Engineering.
- 3-8 years of oil and gas experience with a major contractor or consultant.
- Experience predominantly in detailed design, subsea engineering, installation analysis, or offshore project engineering.
- Practical experience with subsea equipment design and analysis, including risers, pipelines, subsea structures, and umbilicals.
- Experience using industry-standard software for design and installation analysis such as OrcaFlex, Pipelay, OffPipe, Abaqus, or similar tools.
- Good knowledge of commonly used codes and standards for subsea engineering and installation engineering.
- Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet project deadlines.
- Working knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
- HSE-conscious, TQM-conscious, and cost-conscious approach to engineering work.
- Ability to support project engineering, offshore trips, site visits, fabrication yard assignments, and cross-functional work requirements when needed.
- Flexible attitude with willingness to support other departments, colleagues, projects, and changing work priorities.
- Ability to work with moderate guidance while developing deeper knowledge of McDermott procedures, project execution methods, client requirements, and subsea engineering practices.
