Role Context
The Senior Mechanical Engineer - Offshore supports the mechanical discipline across conceptual work, FEED studies, detailed engineering, procurement support, vendor coordination, fabrication assistance, and project execution interfaces. The role helps ensure that mechanical deliverables are technically correct, aligned with project specifications, coordinated with other disciplines, and completed within agreed schedules and budgets. Strong performance in this position improves design reliability, reduces fabrication issues, supports clash-free engineering, and strengthens mechanical integrity across offshore energy infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual engineering, FEED studies, detailed analyses, and mechanical design work in line with project design basis, specifications, design codes, and engineering standards.
- Prepare accurate design calculations, technical analyses, design reports, procedures, engineering philosophies, and mechanical specifications.
- Review project scope, schedules, specifications, inter-discipline requirements, and execution constraints to identify concerns early and support timely resolution.
- Manage assigned work within agreed budgets and deadlines while planning short-term engineering activities effectively.
- Provide technical direction to designers and review mechanical engineering outputs for quality, accuracy, and project compliance.
- Support development of discipline deliverable lists and ensure mechanical deliverables meet specification requirements and functional integrity.
- Interface with engineering disciplines to develop coordinated and clash-free designs.
- Coordinate with planning, fabrication, marine, project management, safety, procurement, document control, subcontractors, vendors, and customers as required.
- Raise technical queries to clarify missing information, scope uncertainty, client-preferred procedures, project standards, and operational requirements.
- Identify scope changes early and support change notifications, variation order inputs, technical documentation, and work-hour estimates.
- Assist in preparing bid proposal inputs, including technical query reviews, execution statements, work-hour estimates, and mechanical discipline support.
- Attend project review meetings, engineering meetings, vendor meetings, and offshore site surveys when required.
- Prepare and review mechanical design reports, technical procedures, specifications, and project documentation.
- Provide mechanical inputs to other disciplines so they can proceed with their engineering deliverables.
- Assist procurement teams with requisitions, technical quotation evaluations, bid tabulations, recommendations, purchase requisitions, and vendor document follow-up.
- Review vendor and subcontractor submittals for compliance with project specifications and provide clear comments when corrections are needed.
- Update weight reports based on vendor information and support technical verification of vendor data.
- Check mechanical engineering work performed by others within the discipline to maintain consistency and technical quality.
- Perform design verification through single-discipline checks and inter-discipline checks.
- Support fabrication teams by answering technical queries and identifying defect or rectification requirements.
- Keep the Lead Engineer informed of technical issues, budget concerns, manpower matters, and project delivery risks.
- Guide engineers when required and take delegated lead responsibility for discipline tasks or project team activities.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
- 8-15 years of experience in oil and gas with major contractors or consultants, mainly performing detailed design for offshore facilities.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering design techniques, analysis methods, offshore design requirements, standards, codes, and guidelines.
- Experience preparing mechanical design calculations, specifications, design reports, procedures, engineering philosophies, and technical deliverables.
- Practical exposure to FEED, detailed engineering, vendor document review, procurement support, fabrication queries, and offshore site support.
- Ability to review engineering work, guide designers, support engineers, and coordinate discipline tasks when required.
- Preferably registered as a Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, or member of a professional engineering society.
- Good English communication skills in writing and speaking, with B2 level or higher preferred.
- Quality-oriented and schedule-conscious approach to project execution.
- Strong coordination skills for working with engineering disciplines, fabrication, marine, procurement, project management, vendors, subcontractors, and customers.
- Ability to recommend process improvements and support construction from the office or site when necessary.
