Role Context
The Store Manager has full responsibility for the operational and commercial performance of the assigned location. The position converts MAF Retail objectives into daily store plans covering sales, margin, stock, staffing, customer satisfaction, hygiene, safety, merchandising, and expense control. Success in this role depends on maintaining the right product availability while protecting profitability and service quality. The manager will use operational data to identify performance gaps, coordinate corrective actions, and build a capable team that can meet customer and business expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement supermarket strategies, operating policies, and store plans in alignment with MAF Retail objectives.
- Coordinate with Head Office, corporate departments, merchandising teams, and operational stakeholders.
- Manage daily supermarket activities to ensure efficient opening, trading, replenishment, customer service, and closing procedures.
- Analyse turnover, net profit, gross margin, transactions, basket performance, labour costs, and operational expenses.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue, improve productivity, protect margins, and optimise controllable costs.
- Establish action plans for underperforming categories, departments, shifts, or operational areas.
- Ensure appropriate stock availability across core, seasonal, promotional, and fast-moving product ranges.
- Monitor inventory accuracy, stock rotation, pricing, expiry dates, replenishment, and receiving processes.
- Reduce waste, damage, markdown exposure, stock discrepancies, and shrinkage through effective controls.
- Coordinate with merchandising and department teams to maintain attractive, accurate, and customer-friendly product displays.
- Confirm that promotional displays, price labels, signage, and product positioning meet approved standards.
- Follow up on product deliveries and resolve availability, quality, quantity, or timing concerns.
- Maintain strong standards across fresh, ambient, chilled, frozen, and non-food categories where applicable.
- Monitor customer feedback, service results, complaints, and operational health index performance.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and introduce improvements that strengthen satisfaction and loyalty.
- Ensure supermarket assets, fixtures, refrigeration units, point-of-sale equipment, and facilities remain operational.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and urgent repair requirements with the relevant service teams.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, housekeeping, food safety, security, and workplace safety.
- Ensure employees comply with health, safety, loss prevention, and emergency response procedures.
- Set clear objectives for department heads, supervisors, and store employees.
- Review employee performance and provide regular coaching, feedback, and practical guidance.
- Identify staffing, manpower, scheduling, and training requirements based on business demand.
- Organise on-the-job training and coordinate formal learning initiatives to strengthen team capability.
- Support talent identification, succession planning, employee engagement, and retention.
- Maintain accurate operational, financial, inventory, workforce, and compliance records.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that support sustainable supermarket growth.
- Ensure full compliance with MAF Retail policies, delegated authority, operating procedures, and governance requirements.
Ideal Profile
- Emirati national with a UAE family book.
- Relevant experience managing supermarket, hypermarket, grocery, convenience store, or retail branch operations.
- Strong understanding of sales, profitability, margins, operating expenses, and store performance indicators.
- Proven ability to manage inventory, replenishment, pricing, waste, shrinkage, and product availability.
- Practical knowledge of merchandising, promotional execution, stock quality, and customer service standards.
- Experience leading department heads, supervisors, cashiers, replenishment employees, and other retail teams.
- Ability to establish objectives, review results, coach employees, and manage performance.
- Familiarity with hygiene, food safety, occupational safety, security, and asset maintenance requirements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales and operational reports.
- Commercial judgement with a disciplined approach to cost control and profitability.
- Effective communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving capabilities.
