Role Context
The Store Associate - Retail Operations helps maintain an organised, fully stocked, and customer‑ready discount retail store. The role connects back‑of‑house receiving activities with warehouse organisation, merchandise presentation, checkout support, and direct customer assistance. By maintaining accurate labels, correct prices, appropriate stock rotation, and clean displays, the associate contributes to sales performance, customer satisfaction, reduced waste, and shrinkage control. The position also supports operational continuity by moving between departments when additional assistance is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the receiving team with checking, unloading, counting, and accepting incoming merchandise.
- Compare delivered products against purchase, transfer, or receiving documentation.
- Report damaged, missing, excess, or incorrectly delivered items to the responsible supervisor.
- Move accepted products safely from the receiving area to the warehouse or selling floor.
- Arrange warehouse and shelf space to maintain clean, accessible, and orderly stock locations.
- Replenish products throughout the trading day according to availability and customer demand.
- Follow the approved national planogram when positioning merchandise on shelves and promotional displays.
- Ensure products are arranged according to category, size, quantity, quality, appearance, and price range.
- Check that shelf labels, product descriptions, barcodes, and prices are accurate.
- Correct or report pricing and labelling discrepancies before they affect customers.
- Maintain attractive, clean, and presentable merchandise displays.
- Monitor stock availability and notify supervisors when replenishment or additional ordering is required.
- Identify slow‑moving products and sleeping stock for review by the commercial team.
- Check expiry dates where applicable and prioritise products according to stock rotation requirements.
- Remove damaged, expired, unsafe, or unsellable products in accordance with store procedures.
- Help control waste, stock loss, and shrinkage within assigned sections.
- Assist customers with product locations, availability, prices, promotions, and basic item information.
- Respond quickly and courteously to customer requests.
- Recommend suitable products and promote relevant offers when appropriate.
- Support the Central Cashier Office and checkout team during peak periods.
- Scan customer purchases accurately and ensure products are packaged carefully.
- Assist with approved cash counter duties under the direction of the cashier or supervisor.
- Support customer service activities when additional assistance is required.
- Maintain cleanliness across shelves, selling areas, stockrooms, receiving zones, and workstations.
- Follow store hygiene, safety, security, and local authority requirements.
- Use equipment, trolleys, shelving, and stock‑handling tools safely.
- Participate in stock counts, inventory checks, promotional changes, and store opening or closing duties.
- Cooperate with commercial, cashier, receiving, warehouse, and customer service colleagues.
- Follow company policies, operational procedures, and management instructions throughout each shift.
Ideal Profile
- One to three years of commercial experience in retail stores, discount retail, supermarkets, fashion outlets, convenience stores, or similar customer‑facing businesses.
- Diploma in Business Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline is an advantage.
- Good spoken English with the ability to understand basic written instructions, product labels, and store procedures.
- Previous experience with merchandise replenishment, receiving, cashier support, or customer service is preferred.
- Ability to handle several operational tasks during the same shift.
- Strong attention to product quantity, appearance, labelling, pricing, and shelf organisation.
- Basic numerical ability for product counting, pricing checks, and cashier assistance.
- Customer‑focused attitude with a helpful and professional communication style.
- Ability to work efficiently during busy trading periods.
- Physically able to stand, walk, move merchandise, and complete routine store duties.
- Comfortable working in selling areas, warehouses, receiving zones, and checkout counters.
- Able to follow planograms, stock rotation rules, safety procedures, and supervisor directions.
- Flexible approach to changing priorities and departmental assignments.
