Role Context
The Senior Process Engineer - Oil and Gas supports the delivery of process engineering work across conceptual studies, FEED, detailed design, vendor review, technical audits, and project execution interfaces. The position contributes to safe and efficient project development by preparing technical deliverables, reviewing calculations, coordinating with engineering disciplines, and ensuring process designs meet project specifications, codes, standards, and functional requirements. Strong performance in this role helps reduce design errors, support clash‑free engineering, improve safety study outcomes, and maintain delivery quality across complex oil and gas projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual studies, FEED work, detailed process engineering analysis, and design activities in line with project specifications, design basis, codes, and standards.
- Prepare and check process calculations, engineering reports, technical procedures, design philosophies, specifications, and project process documentation.
- Develop and review process simulations, heat and material balances, process flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, and process safeguarding diagrams.
- Prepare and check equipment process datasheets, instrument process datasheets, equipment lists, line lists, operating philosophies, startup manuals, and operating manuals.
- Carry out equipment sizing, line sizing, flare radiation calculations, dispersion analysis, depressurization studies, flare network studies, and process studies.
- Provide process engineering inputs for layout reviews, area classification drawings, safety studies, electrical load lists, equipment datasheets, instrument datasheets, ESD logic, F and G logic, and control narratives.
- Support inter‑discipline checks by reviewing design interfaces and providing process inputs that help maintain clash‑free and technically aligned engineering outputs.
- Review vendor and subcontractor submittals for compliance with project requirements and provide clear technical comments where required.
- Raise technical queries to clarify scope, obtain missing information, and maintain alignment with McDermott procedures, project standards, and operational requirements.
- Identify scope changes early and support change notifications, variation order inputs, estimates, and required technical documentation.
- Assist in preparing bid proposal inputs, including technical query reviews, execution statements, work‑hour estimates, and process discipline support.
- Attend project review meetings, engineering meetings, vendor meetings, and offshore site surveys when required.
- Provide technical direction to designers and review design outputs related to process engineering deliverables.
- Guide less experienced engineers on MDR procedures, discipline standards, worksheets, calculations, software, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and technical queries.
- Check engineering work performed by others within the process discipline to support quality, consistency, and technical integrity.
- Assist in closing HAZOP action items and participate in safety, operability, reliability, customer, internal, and third‑party technical audits.
- Manage assigned work within agreed deadlines, budgets, and short‑term activity plans while keeping discipline costs and productivity visible.
- Document important communications, decisions, and assigned actions, then share them with the discipline lead engineer and discipline manager.
- Maintain close coordination with engineering disciplines, fabrication, safety, document control, procurement, vendors, subcontractors, customers, planning, and project management teams.
- Act as lead engineer on small projects when required, directing engineering activities, coordinating deliverables, and supporting project execution control.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering.
- 8‑15 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant, mainly in detail design.
- Strong knowledge of process engineering design techniques, analysis methods, engineering codes, standards, and industry guidelines.
- Experience preparing or reviewing process simulations, heat and material balances, PFDs, P and IDs, process safeguarding diagrams, equipment datasheets, line lists, and process specifications.
- Practical exposure to equipment sizing, line sizing, flare radiation, dispersion calculations, depressurization studies, flare networks, and process safety inputs.
- Ability to provide process engineering support to other disciplines during layout reviews, safety studies, electrical load inputs, equipment datasheets, instrument datasheets, and control narrative development.
- Experience with vendor document review, subcontractor submittal checks, technical queries, bid support, and engineering deliverable control.
- Good understanding of HAZOP action closeout, technical audits, design reviews, and multidisciplinary engineering coordination.
- Ability to guide engineers and designers while checking technical work for quality and compliance.
- Preferably registered as a Professional Engineer or member of a professional engineering society where applicable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex process engineering topics clearly to project teams and stakeholders.
