Role Context
The Senior Principal Piping Engineer is responsible for solving the most complex piping engineering challenges that impact project delivery, discipline strategy, and business direction. This role leads large engineering teams, manages discipline execution, and ensures piping systems meet technical, commercial, and operational requirements across world‑scale EPC projects while supporting innovation, productivity, and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed piping engineering analyses and design according to project specifications, standards, and design basis.
- Develop reliable, innovative, and cost‑effective solutions for complex piping engineering challenges.
- Lead large engineering teams on complex and high‑value EPC projects while managing discipline scope, schedules, deliverables, and workforce planning.
- Review and approve piping specifications, technical documents, engineering procedures, and subcontract packages.
- Specify materials for all piping components according to process and project requirements.
- Prepare and manage piping requisitions and evaluate incoming technical bids from vendors and suppliers.
- Review vendor documents for compliance with purchase order requirements and project specifications.
- Lead all MTO and material control activities including quantity reporting, planning forms, and close‑out reports.
- Prepare material control reports, analyze piping quantity developments, and report findings to project management.
- Perform advanced pipe stress calculations for critical systems and coordinate design modifications where required.
- Design adequate pipe supports and coordinate with Civil and Structural teams for support structures.
- Prepare and manage pipe support requisitions and establish interfaces with multidisciplinary teams.
- Support project management with schedules, deliverable control, progress reports, and man‑hour estimates.
- Identify scope changes, manage change notifications, and provide technical leadership during audits and design reviews.
- Mentor engineers, coach future Lead Engineers, and support departmental growth and technical excellence.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in piping engineering within oil and gas projects with major EPC contractors.
- Strong expertise in FEED, detailed design, and large‑scale EPC project execution.
- Deep knowledge of piping material engineering, pipe stress analysis, supports, MTO control, and material management.
- Strong familiarity with international piping codes and standards including ASME, API, ANSI, and related specifications.
- Proven experience leading large engineering teams and managing multidisciplinary project execution.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of client, fabrication yard, and construction requirements.
- Excellent leadership, technical communication, and strategic decision‑making skills.
