Key Responsibilities
- Carry out conceptual, FEED, and detailed piping design analysis according to project scope, design basis, engineering codes, standards, documentation, and McDermott procedures.
- Prepare detailed design calculations, engineering analyses, procedures, technical reports, specifications, and discipline deliverables.
- Use specialist piping knowledge to resolve complex technical issues, non‑standard design situations, and project execution challenges.
- Report major engineering concerns early to the Project Management Team and Department Manager with practical recommendations.
- Lead medium or large piping engineering and design teams when assigned as Lead Engineer or Area Lead.
- Plan, organise, and control discipline execution, including scope, schedules, manpower resources, deliverables, progress, and productivity.
- Review project scope of work, specifications, schedules, inter‑discipline requirements, execution strategy, and technical interface needs.
- Represent the piping discipline in meetings with project teams, clients, certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate with other departments to obtain required engineering and design inputs.
- Interface with High‑Value Engineering Centers to confirm scope clarity, deliverables, schedule expectations, and execution responsibilities.
- Prepare Iso Curve inputs in line with the Project Level 3 schedule.
- Review piping budgets and provide discipline input for the Project Execution Plan.
- Assign tasks, responsibilities, and manhour budgets to piping sub‑discipline teams and verify completion within approved limits.
- Support 3D model reviews at 30%, 60%, and 90% progress stages.
- Provide piping input for Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 project schedules and review schedule dependencies.
- Prepare discipline forecasts, identify changes to scope, and raise timely notifications for change management.
- Alert project teams when deviations from scope or potential change order requirements are identified.
- Develop piping manhour estimates, deliverables lists, schedules, and discipline execution plan inputs.
- Check and approve piping design philosophies, specifications, pipe supports, standard detail drawings, material take‑offs, and material requisitions.
- Monitor KPI results and take corrective action to improve piping discipline performance.
- Lead piping discipline participation during internal audits, external audits, project reviews, proposals, and technical studies.
- Support team performance feedback and assist department management with evaluation of piping team members.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 15-20 years of piping engineering experience in oil and gas, preferably with a major EPC contractor or engineering consultant.
- Strong experience in conceptual design, FEED, detailed design, project execution, and multi‑discipline engineering coordination.
- Proven ability to lead piping engineering and design teams on medium or large projects.
- Strong knowledge of piping specifications, pipe supports, standard detail drawings, MTOs, material requisitions, and piping design deliverables.
- Good understanding of project schedules, manpower planning, discipline forecasting, progress measurement, and change control.
- Experience supporting 3D model reviews, discipline audits, client meetings, certifying authority reviews, and technical project coordination.
- Ability to interpret business and project challenges and recommend improved engineering practices or execution methods.
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to solve complex piping problems and guide teams toward practical solutions.
- Clear communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and negotiate engineering decisions with stakeholders.
- Strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and project procedure compliance.
