Role Context
The Principal Piping Material Engineer is responsible for managing complex piping engineering activities across conceptual, Pre‑FEED, FEED, and detailed design phases. This position ensures the correct selection of piping materials, technical compliance, project coordination, and successful discipline execution throughout the full project lifecycle. The role directly supports engineering quality, construction readiness, and safe operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed design analysis based on project scope, design basis, codes, and standards
- Prepare detailed piping design calculations, reports, and engineering procedures
- Lead technical solutions for complex piping engineering challenges and provide recommendations for best practices
- Manage schedule planning, resource forecasting, and discipline execution within approved project budgets
- Review and approve piping design philosophies, specifications, pipe supports, standard drawings, MTOs, and material requisitions
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines, construction teams, procurement, and project management for integrated project delivery
- Support 3D model reviews at 30 percent, 60 percent, and 90 percent project progress stages
- Monitor piping KPIs and implement corrective actions where required
- Participate in project audits, technical reviews, and change management activities
- Prepare piping man‑hour estimates, execution plans, discipline forecasts, and deliverable schedules
- Interface with High‑Value Engineering Centers and ensure alignment with project scope and deliverables
- Lead piping engineering and layout teams when assigned as Lead Engineer
- Support proposals, technical studies, and client engineering discussions
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 15 to 20 years of experience as a Piping Engineer in oil and gas with major EPC contractors
- Strong experience in Conceptual, Pre‑FEED, FEED, and detailed design phases
- Previous Lead Piping Engineer experience on FEED and EPC projects in multi‑office execution environments
- Deep knowledge of piping material engineering, pipe stress, support systems, modeling, and MTO activities
- Familiarity with international engineering standards including ANSI, ASME, API, BS, and NFPA
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project contracts
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex project coordination
- Flexible for international business travel
