• Monitor schedules, laycans, ETAs, port conditions, and voyage performance.
• Assess freight, port expenses, survey charges, bunker costs, and demurrage exposure.
• Coordinate cargo inspection, sampling, quality verification, and shortages investigations.
• Prepare shipping instructions, bills of lading, cargo manifests, certificates.
• Draft emails, operational instructions, notices, and claims correspondence.
• Make timely operational decisions within delegated authority.
• Maintain voyage records and provide updates on progress and costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle day-to-day operation, including vessel nominations, port clearances, loading, discharge, and ship-to-ship (STS) transfers.
• Draft, review, and negotiate charter parties, fixture recaps, and associated clauses, ensuring that terms accurately reflect the agreed commercial arrangements and protect the company’s interests.
• Prepare and verify laytime and demurrage calculations, review supporting records, submit claims within contractual deadlines, and negotiate settlements.
• Review Notices of Readiness, Statements of Facts, pumping logs, and time sheets to determine time counting and identify discrepancies.
• Coordinate closely with vessel owners, charterers, masters, terminals, shipping agents, and surveyors to ensure efficient execution of each voyage.
• Maintain and actively develop strong relationships with agents and surveyors across the Arabian Gulf, ensuring reliable service, competitive charges, and prompt resolution of operational issues.
• Monitor vessel schedules, laycans, ETAs, port conditions, and voyage performance, taking timely action to minimise delays and costs.
• Assess freight, port expenses, agency fees, survey charges, bunker costs, and demurrage exposure using sound commercial shipping judgment.
• Coordinate cargo inspection, sampling, measurement, and quality verification; investigate shortages, contamination, and other cargo discrepancies.
• Prepare and review shipping instructions, bills of lading, cargo manifests, certificates, and other required operational documents.
• Draft professional emails, operational instructions, contractual notices, letters of protest, and claims correspondence.
• Make timely operational decisions within delegated authority, take responsibility for their execution, and elevate significant matters with practical recommendations.
• Maintain accurate voyage records and provide clear updates on operational progress, costs, claims, and outstanding issues.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in tanker operations and commercial shipping, including substantial hands‑on shore-based experience.
• A strong, established network of shipping agents and independent surveyors across the Arabian Gulf, with direct experience working with regional ports and terminals.
• Proven decision‑making ability, with the confidence and judgment to resolve complex operational issues independently and under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate charter parties, including fixture recaps, rider clauses, and operational provisions.
• Strong practical expertise in laytime and demurrage calculations, claims preparation, contractual time bars, and settlement negotiations.
• Advanced commercial shipping skills, including voyage economics, freight assessment, charter‑party interpretation, cost control, and claims handling.
• Thorough knowledge of tanker cargo operations, loading and discharge procedures, STS transfers, and cargo quantity and quality controls.
• Ability to coordinate multiple vessels and shipments simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent written and spoken English, with particularly strong professional email writing and commercial correspondence skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and relevant shipping and voyage management systems.
• A relevant maritime degree or professional qualification is preferred; proven operational competence and commercial expertise are essential.
