Job summary

Blake Anderson Recruitment is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - MEP Design in Dubai to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of HVAC, Public Health, and Fire Protection systems across UAE and GCC projects.

The role entails hands-on ownership from feasibility to handover, reviewing engineering solutions, and coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors. Strong UAE/GCC experience in workplace fit-outs and healthcare facilities is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised university.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant MEP engineering experience, UAE/GCC preferred.
• Strong consultancy and design background delivering projects from feasibility to handover.
• Experience in commercial interiors, workplace fit-outs, refurbishment and renovation.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, Public Health/Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
• Ability to independently prepare and verify mechanical calculations.
• Understands UAE/GCC authorities and standards (ASHRAE, CIBSE, NFPA, SMACNA, etc.).
• Experience with BIM/Revit coordination is advantageous.

Responsibilities

My client a well establish design practice in Dubai are seeking an experienced and technically strong Senior Mechanical Engineer - MEP Design to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of Mechanical, Public Health, and Fire Protection systems across projects in the UAE and wider GCC region.

This is a hands-on senior role requiring strong technical ownership from initial feasibility and concept design through detailed design, tender, construction, testing and commissioning, and final handover. The successful candidate will be responsible for independently developing, reviewing, and technically justifying engineering solutions while coordinating closely with clients, consultants, contractors, landlords, authorities, and multidisciplinary design teams.

The role is particularly suited to an engineer with strong experience in workplace and commercial fit-outs, refurbishment projects, new-build developments, laboratories, healthcare facilities, warehouses, and specialist technical environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and coordination of HVAC, Public Health/Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems through Concept, Schematic Design, Detailed Design, Tender, Construction, and Handover stages.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations including cooling and heating loads, fresh-air and ventilation requirements, duct and pipe sizing, pressure-loss calculations, pump duties, water demand, drainage, fire-water demand, and sprinkler hydraulics.
• Design and review chilled-water, DX, VRF/VRV, FCU, AHU, FAHU, ventilation, extract, domestic water, drainage, and fire-fighting systems.
• Select and technically evaluate mechanical equipment against design loads, system performance, energy efficiency, acoustic requirements, and operating conditions.
• Establish the Basis of Design, design criteria, engineering strategy, and system approach for assigned projects.
• Assess existing and base-build MEP systems, capacities, connection points, landlord provisions, and site constraints for fit-out and refurbishment projects.
• Develop practical engineering solutions around ceiling, structural, operational, existing-services, and spatial constraints.
• Coordinate closely with Interior Design, Architecture, Structural, Electrical, Lighting, AV/IT/Security, Acoustics, Fire & Life Safety, and other specialist disciplines.
• Lead and review technical drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules, reports, schematics, and tender documentation.
• Carry out internal QA/QC reviews and ensure designs are technically compliant, coordinated, buildable, and aligned with project requirements.
• Review contractor shop drawings, material submittals, RFIs, technical proposals, Value Engineering proposals, and equipment substitutions.
• Attend site inspections, technical meetings, testing and commissioning activities, and support snagging and final handover.
• Represent the MEP team in client, contractor, landlord, consultant, and authority meetings.
• Communicate technical, cost, programme, and operational implications of design decisions and changes.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers.
• Proactively identify design and construction risks and resolve technical issues before they impact project delivery.

Desired Candidate Profile

• Bachelor}s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised university.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant MEP engineering experience, with strong UAE and/or GCC experience preferred.
• Strong consultancy and design background with proven experience delivering projects from feasibility and concept through construction and handover.
• Extensive experience in commercial interiors, workplace fit-outs, refurbishment, and renovation projects.
• Experience in laboratories, healthcare/clinics, warehouses, technical facilities, server rooms, kitchens, or other specialist environments is highly desirable.
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, Public Health/Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
• Ability to independently prepare and verify mechanical engineering calculations and complete coordinated designs.
• Strong understanding of UAE/GCC authority requirements and relevant standards, including ASHRAE, CIBSE, NFPA, SMACNA, UAE Fire & Life Safety Code, Civil Defence requirements, and applicable plumbing codes.
• Strong working knowledge of Carrier HAP or equivalent, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Microsoft Excel, and relevant engineering calculation software.
• Experience with BIM/Revit coordination is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of existing-building assessments, landlord interfaces, live-building constraints, shutdown requirements, and MEP system capacity verification.
• Excellent technical problem-solving, engineering judgement, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
• Strong client-facing, presentation, communication, and technical writing skills.
• Ability to review contractor proposals critically and provide clear, technically justified recommendations.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior team members and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the cost and programme implications of engineering decisions.
• UAE Society of Engineers membership or equivalent professional registration is advantageous.
