Job summary

Al Shafar United invites an experienced Technical Engineer – MEP to lead the technical and engineering activities for major high-rise and large-scale projects in the UAE. You will oversee the complete MEP function from design review through procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and handover on site.

This senior role requires strong leadership, practical construction knowledge, and the ability to coordinate with consultants, clients, subcontractors and authorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognised university.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in MEP engineering and construction.
• Strong experience with a Main Contractor / Tier-1 Contractor is highly preferred.
• Significant experience delivering high-rise, luxury residential, hotel, commercial, mixed-use or mega building projects.
• Proven experience managing projects from design through handover, including testing and commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Drainage, Fire Fighting, Fire Alarm, ELV systems.
• Excellent understanding of technical specifications, contracts, BOQ, IFC drawings and shop drawings.
• Strong knowledge of UAE authority requirements, Municipality, Civil Defence and utility regulations.
• Good understanding of FIDIC and construction contract administration.
• Strong experience in technical coordination, value engineering, procurement and subcontractor management.
• Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
• PMP or equivalent professional certification would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all technical and engineering activities related to MEP systems (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, Fire Alarm, ELV).
• Manage design review, technical submissions, shop drawings, material submissions, RFIs and method statements.
• Review IFC drawings, specifications and contract requirements to identify discrepancies and risks.
• Coordinate engineering deliverables with construction programme and stakeholders.
• Provide technical solutions to complex design, coordination and construction issues.
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, specialist subcontractors and suppliers for timely approvals.
• Review MEP procurement and conduct technical evaluation of materials and subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with project specs, international standards and UAE authority requirements.
• Support value engineering and identify cost-saving technical solutions.
• Review variations and support claims with the Commercial/Contracts team.
• Monitor MEP installation activities and ensure proper implementation on site.
• Lead coordination for testing, commissioning, authority inspections and handover.
• Ensure creation of as-built drawings, O&M manuals and close-out documentation.
• Mentor Technical Engineers, Design Coordinators and BIM/Engineering teams.
• Participate in technical and progress meetings with senior management, consultants and clients.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Engineer – MEP to join our team and lead the technical and engineering activities for major high-rise, mixed-use and large-scale building projects in the UAE.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the complete MEP technical function from design review and engineering coordination through procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.

This is a senior position requiring strong technical leadership, practical construction knowledge and the ability to coordinate effectively between consultants, clients, subcontractors, authorities and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all technical and engineering activities related to Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, Fire Alarm and ELV systems.
• Manage design review, technical submissions, shop drawings, material submissions, RFIs, method statements and technical queries.
• Review IFC drawings, specifications, BOQ and contract requirements and identify technical discrepancies, risks and opportunities.
• Manage the engineering deliverables schedule and ensure technical submissions are aligned with the construction programme.
• Provide technical solutions to complex design, coordination and construction issues.
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, specialist subcontractors and suppliers to achieve timely approvals.
• Review and manage MEP procurement, including technical evaluation of materials, equipment and specialist subcontractors.
• Ensure technical compliance with project specifications, international standards and UAE authority requirements.
• Support value engineering initiatives and identify technically compliant cost‑saving solutions.
• Review variations and technical changes and support the Commercial/Contracts team in substantiating claims.
• Monitor MEP installation activities and ensure engineering requirements are properly implemented on site.
• Lead technical coordination for testing, commissioning, authority inspections and final handover.
• Ensure proper preparation and completion of as-built drawings, O&M manuals and project close‑out documentation.
• Manage and mentor Technical Engineers, Design Coordinators, MEP Engineers and BIM/Engineering teams.
• Participate in technical and progress meetings with senior management, consultants and clients.

Candidate Requirements

Preferred Profile

We are particularly interested in candidates who have successfully managed the complete technical and engineering lifecycle of complex MEP packages, including multidisciplinary coordination, specialist systems, value engineering, commercial/technical evaluation and project delivery.

Experience with complex systems such as district cooling, BMS, chiller plants, water treatment, fire and life safety systems, low-current systems and testing & commissioning will be highly valued. The reference profile demonstrates this kind of specialist coordination across numerous MEP systems.
