Role Context

The Senior Manager - Health and Safety Governance operates at Group level rather than managing day-to-day site safety. The role provides strategic stewardship across Majid Al Futtaim Operating Companies by defining minimum Health and Safety requirements, establishing governance expectations, challenging performance, and ensuring that significant risks receive appropriate leadership attention. This position plays an important role in protecting employees, contractors, customers, assets, and business continuity. By combining assurance, performance analytics, incident learning, critical risk oversight, and capability development, the Senior Manager helps create a consistent and mature safety culture across diverse businesses and geographies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the Group Health and Safety strategy, governance framework, policies, standards, and minimum operating requirements.
• Align Group Health and Safety requirements with applicable legislation, ISO 45001, international good practice, and organizational risk appetite.
• Define clear Health and Safety accountabilities between Group functions and Operating Companies.
• Establish governance mechanisms that provide effective oversight without duplicating operational responsibilities held by OpCo teams.
• Assess Health and Safety maturity across Operating Companies and identify opportunities for systemic improvement.
• Oversee audits, assurance reviews, independent assessments, and compliance evaluations across the Group.
• Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and ensure consistent performance measurement across Operating Companies.
• Develop dashboards, management reporting, and risk summaries that provide senior leadership with reliable Health and Safety visibility.
• Identify recurring hazards, systemic weaknesses, and emerging safety trends across businesses and geographic markets.
• Support Operating Companies in addressing critical risks, major findings, and overdue corrective actions.
• Prepare Health and Safety risk briefings and performance updates for executive leadership and Board-level audiences.
• Lead the Group framework for critical risk management and prevention of serious injuries and major incidents.
• Govern incident notification, escalation, investigation, root cause analysis, and organizational learning processes.
• Provide specialist support during serious incidents and ensure appropriate escalation and governance.
• Review investigation findings to identify systemic causes rather than isolated operational failures.
• Track corrective and preventive actions arising from significant incidents and assurance findings.
• Ensure lessons from incidents and near misses are shared effectively across Operating Companies.
• Build Health and Safety capability through leadership engagement, training frameworks, guidance materials, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Support Operating Companies in strengthening safety leadership, workforce engagement, and organizational maturity.
• Integrate Health and Safety considerations into business planning, capital investment, operational decisions, and risk management.
• Collaborate with Risk, ESG and Sustainability, Human Resources, Legal, Operations, auditors, regulators, and external specialists.
• Contribute reliable Health and Safety information to ESG, sustainability, and enterprise risk disclosures.
• Support environmental stewardship by aligning relevant management practices with applicable ISO standards.
• Drive continuous improvement of Health and Safety and associated environmental management systems.

Ideal Profile

The successful candidate should bring substantial Health and Safety leadership experience gained within a complex, multi-business, multi-site, or multinational organization. Strong knowledge of occupational Health and Safety governance, ISO 45001, critical risk management, assurance, incident investigation, root cause analysis, and performance reporting is essential. Experience operating at Group, corporate, or regional governance level would be particularly valuable. Candidates should be capable of balancing central oversight with the operational independence of individual business units. The position requires the confidence to challenge senior stakeholders constructively, evaluate risk objectively, and influence improvements without assuming direct operational ownership. A strong understanding of enterprise risk management, ESG reporting, sustainability, regulatory compliance, and management systems will support success in the role. Experience preparing executive and Board-level reporting is also important.
