Role Context
The HSSE Manager provides operational leadership for protecting employees, customers, contractors, facilities, and business continuity across Al-Futtaim Automotive locations. Rather than relying solely on compliance audits, the position takes a proactive approach to identifying hazards, strengthening controls, improving security capability, and preventing incidents before they occur. Regular site engagement, regulatory monitoring, emergency planning, and structured corrective action help create safer facilities while reducing operational, financial, and reputational exposure.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental requirements across assigned automotive facilities.
- Conduct weekly visits to assigned locations to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, security weaknesses, and operational gaps.
- Drive a targeted increase in HSSE hazard and gap reporting through systematic inspections and employee awareness.
- Develop corrective and preventative action plans designed to reduce preventable incidents.
- Conduct scheduled site audits to measure compliance and demonstrate improvement in HSSE performance.
- Perform detailed risk assessments and recommend practical controls based on identified hazards.
- Track corrective actions through closure and escalated overdue or high-risk matters appropriately.
- Ensure fire safety and security systems are checked regularly and deficiencies are escalated to Facilities Management and AMC service providers.
- Develop and implement HSSE initiatives addressing compliance, environmental performance, employee welfare, or workplace safety.
- Ensure adequate numbers of trained first aiders and fire wardens are available in accordance with local requirements.
- Coordinate site-specific emergency response plans, procedures, responsibilities, and resources.
- Conduct emergency preparedness activities and identify opportunities to improve response capability.
- Drive improvements required for ISO certification and coordinate relevant internal audit activities.
- Work with stakeholders to maintain safe third-party access and permit-to-work processes.
- Support the objective of zero accidents during contractor and third-party activities.
- Develop and deliver safety training, awareness campaigns, toolbox sessions, and presentations.
- Maintain current knowledge of UAE federal and local HSSE requirements affecting assigned facilities.
- Establish and maintain a centralized Legal Register covering applicable requirements across relevant emirates.
- Review the Legal Register quarterly and incorporate regulatory changes into operational controls.
- Coordinate mandatory permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals for assigned locations.
- Conduct unannounced inspections to verify security staffing, deployment, and performance.
- Assess security personnel capability and implement development actions to improve competency levels.
- Maintain effective incident reporting and investigation processes.
- Investigate workplace incidents to determine root causes and establish preventative actions.
- Monitor HSSE performance indicators and provide management with clear reporting on trends, gaps, and improvement priorities.
- Track team attendance and hold weekly meetings to review operational performance and challenges.
- Conduct monthly performance reviews with HSSE officers against agreed objectives.
- Ensure officers receive ongoing development in HSE legislation, procedures, investigations, and operational controls.
- Coordinate team leave arrangements while maintaining adequate operational coverage.
- Obtain and provide constructive feedback to strengthen engagement and team performance.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree or higher in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in Health and Safety, Security, Police, or a comparable operational discipline.
- Strong understanding of occupational health, workplace safety, security, and environmental standards.
- Practical experience conducting risk assessments and site safety inspections.
- Demonstrated capability in incident reporting, investigation, root-cause identification, and corrective action.
- Experience with emergency preparedness and response planning.
- Familiarity with fire safety controls and workplace emergency systems.
- Understanding of contractor access control and permit-to-work requirements.
- Exposure to ISO management systems and audit processes is advantageous.
- Knowledge of UAE regulatory requirements affecting workplace health and safety.
- Experience maintaining compliance documentation, permits, licenses, or legal registers.
- Able to manage multiple facilities and prioritize risks according to severity.
- Previous experience supervising or developing HSSE personnel.
- Strong project and process management capability.
- Confident delivering safety training, presentations, and awareness programs.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to engage effectively with Facilities Management, contractors, AMC providers, security teams, and operational management.
