Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead pricing strategies for Majid Al Futtaim Retail operations across multiple countries.
- Establish pricing policies, governance standards, workflows, and operating procedures for the pricing function.
- Manage and develop the pricing team by setting objectives, assigning priorities, reviewing performance, and strengthening technical capability.
- Assess the commercial feasibility and optimal retail price of new products in coordination with sourcing and merchandise teams.
- Evaluate product cost, target margin, customer demand, competitor activity, price elasticity, and market positioning before recommending prices.
- Monitor profitability by section, department, category, pricing zone, and store cluster.
- Analyse the financial effect of pricing strategies using historical sales, volume, margin, basket, and transaction data.
- Identify underperforming pricing actions and implement corrective measures to protect revenue and profitability.
- Guide country management teams on pricing processes, commercial controls, and market‑specific strategies.
- Advise UAE leadership on new pricing tactics that support competitive positioning and pricing leadership.
- Review regular prices, promotional prices, markdowns, and tactical discounts to ensure alignment with approved commercial objectives.
- Manage promotional pricing and recommend final leaflet prices to merchandise teams.
- Assess promotional mechanics, expected uplift, funding, margin impact, and competitor response before final approval.
- Work with merchandising teams to improve promotional effectiveness and avoid unnecessary margin erosion.
- Define the direct competitor set for each store based on location, format, customer profile, assortment, and market conditions.
- Develop and communicate structured competitor price survey schedules.
- Ensure competitor information is accurate, timely, and suitable for commercial decision‑making.
- Monitor market movements, price gaps, inflation, supplier changes, and customer price perception.
- Coordinate pricing matters between external consultants, Majid Al Futtaim Holding, country teams, and Carrefour UAE Head Office.
- Present pricing recommendations, performance findings, and commercial risks to senior management.
- Support annual planning, budgeting, category reviews, and commercial target setting.
- Improve pricing tools, reporting methods, controls, and analytical processes.
- Ensure pricing decisions comply with internal policies, delegated authority, and applicable market requirements.
- Maintain clear documentation of pricing assumptions, approvals, calculations, and implemented actions.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in retail pricing, FMCG commercial management, category management, merchandise planning, or a closely related area.
- Strong understanding of supermarket, hypermarket, grocery, or FMCG pricing practices.
- Demonstrated experience developing pricing strategies across categories, store formats, zones, or geographic markets.
- Proven ability to analyse sales, margins, profitability, price gaps, competitor data, and promotional performance.
- Experience managing regular pricing, promotional pricing, leaflet offers, and tactical commercial activities.
- Strong knowledge of product costing, margin structures, price elasticity, market positioning, and customer price perception.
- Previous experience leading pricing professionals or commercial analytics teams.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with sourcing, merchandise, finance, operations, consultants, and senior management.
- Strong business judgement with the ability to balance competitiveness, customer value, revenue, and profitability.
- Advanced communication and presentation skills.
- Full professional proficiency in English is required.
- Limited working proficiency in Arabic is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Comfortable working with large commercial datasets, pricing reports, and management dashboards.
- Strong negotiation, problem‑solving, planning, and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
