Job summary

Careem is seeking a Design System Lead to evolve the design system into an AI-native platform serving designers, engineers, and AI agents across the super-app. You will own token architecture, component library, and documentation to maintain coherence across multi-vertical experiences and RTL/Arabic contexts.

This hands-on role blends systems thinking with practical tooling, including Figma Plugin API and MCP integrations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in product design, with at least 3 years dedicated to design systems at scale.
• Advanced knowledge of variables, token architecture, component APIs, library management, and branching.
• Demonstrated experience building real workflows with LLMs and agentic tools (e.g., Figma Plugin API, MCP-based integrations, or prompt design).
• Ability to prototype in JavaScript/TypeScript, JSON, and manage design token pipelines.
• Ability to distinguish semantic intent from value coincidence and manage complexity through unification.
• Excellent English writing and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Own token lifecycle and component patterns from inception to deprecation.
• Define standards for color, type, spacing, and interaction across platforms and locales.
• Maintain clear token architecture and responsible ownership.
• Create comprehensive documentation for cross-component guidance.
• Champion accessibility (WCAG) as a system-level guarantee.
• Structure tokens and components for AI-assisted design-to-code workflows.
• Build mappings and integrations (Code Connect, MCP).
• Audit tooling to catch off-system usage before shipping.
• Keep documentation versioned alongside components.
• Prototype Figma plugins and agent workflows to automate tasks.
