Role Context

The SENDCO will provide strategic and operational leadership for inclusive education across the school. The role ensures that students requiring additional support are identified early, provided with effective Individualized Education Plans, and included meaningfully in mainstream learning and school life. Through careful assessment, staff development, policy implementation, and family engagement, the SENDCO will strengthen teaching practices and establish a coordinated support system for every student.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the early identification of students with special educational needs through observation, teacher feedback, progress data, and formal assessment.
  • Coordinate evaluations with educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and other qualified professionals.
  • Establish consistent procedures for identifying and documenting additional learning needs across the school.
  • Create, review, and update Individualized Education Plans in consultation with teachers, parents, and specialists.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions, classroom strategies, and support arrangements when required.
  • Ensure teachers and support staff understand their responsibilities for implementing each student 's Individualized Education Plan.
  • Guide teachers in differentiating lessons, learning materials, and assessments for students with varied educational needs.
  • Coach teaching assistants and support teams to improve the consistency and quality of classroom interventions.
  • Plan and deliver professional development workshops covering inclusive education and effective SEND practices.
  • Develop and maintain school SEND policies in accordance with applicable UAE requirements and the Dubai Inclusive Education Policy Framework.
  • Monitor changes in national and local inclusion guidance and support their effective implementation across the school.
  • Evaluate the impact of interventions using assessment results, progress records, and structured reports.
  • Present regular updates to the senior leadership team regarding student outcomes, provision quality, and areas requiring improvement.
  • Build constructive relationships with parents and involve them in decisions concerning their child 's education and support.
  • Organize and lead meetings covering Individualized Education Plans, student progress, concerns, and future support priorities.
  • Manage the SEND budget responsibly and allocate funding according to identified student needs.
  • Oversee learning aids, assistive technology, specialist resources, and intervention materials.
  • Lead awareness activities that encourage understanding, dignity, inclusion, and respect throughout the school community.
Ideal Profile

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor 's degree in Education or a related discipline together with a recognized teaching qualification such as a PGCE or equivalent. A SENDCO qualification or certification is required, while a Master 's degree in Special Education or Educational Leadership will be an advantage.

Applicants should have 3-5 years of teaching experience with a strong focus on supporting students with special educational needs.

Previous SENDCO, inclusion leadership, or team management experience is preferred.

Experience within a UAE school or a comparable international and inclusive education environment will be particularly valuable.
