Overview

SENDCO – Inclusive Education is a senior Education Management role focused on leading special educational needs and disabilities provision within a school environment in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The position is suitable for an experienced inclusive education professional who can identify student needs, develop Individualised Education Plans, support teachers, coordinate external specialists, ensure UAE inclusion compliance, and promote a safe, supportive, and accessible learning environment for all students.

Role Context

The SENDCO will lead and manage support for students with SEND, ensuring each student receives appropriate academic, social, emotional, and developmental support. The role requires close collaboration with teachers, parents, school leadership, external professionals, and support staff to create effective intervention plans, monitor student progress, strengthen inclusive classroom practice, and ensure compliance with UAE laws and the Dubai Inclusive Education Policy Framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the identification of students with special educational needs and disabilities through observations, teacher feedback, screening tools, and formal assessments.
  • Coordinate assessments for learning difficulties, developmental concerns, disabilities, and additional learning needs in collaboration with qualified external professionals.
  • Develop and maintain a clear process for early identification of SEND needs across the school.
  • Create, review, and update Individualised Education Plans for students with SEND in collaboration with teachers, parents, specialists, and school leadership.
  • Monitor progress of students with SEND and adjust support strategies to meet academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Ensure Individualised Education Plans are implemented effectively in classrooms and that all staff understand their responsibilities.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and resources to teachers and support staff to improve inclusive teaching practice.
  • Support teachers in differentiating lessons, assessments, classroom activities, and intervention strategies for students with SEND.
  • Develop and deliver professional development workshops to build staff capacity in inclusive education and SEND support.
  • Work with external agencies such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and specialist consultants.
  • Maintain strong communication between the school, families, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
  • Ensure the school's SEND provision complies with UAE laws, policies, guidelines, and Dubai Inclusive Education Policy Framework expectations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of national and local inclusion policies and ensure effective implementation across the school.
  • Develop, review, and maintain SEND policies, procedures, intervention records, assessment reports, and support documentation.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision using student progress data, intervention reports, assessment outcomes, and feedback.
  • Lead the review of strategies and interventions to improve outcomes for students with SEND.
  • Provide regular reports to the senior leadership team on student progress, intervention impact, and SEND provision quality.
  • Build strong relationships with parents and guardians, ensuring they are involved in decisions related to their child's education and support.
  • Organise and lead parent meetings to discuss Individualised Education Plans, progress, challenges, and future support plans.
  • Manage and allocate SEND resources effectively, including learning aids, assistive technology, support materials, and intervention tools.
  • Support budget planning for SEND resources and ensure learning materials are used effectively to meet student needs.
  • Foster an inclusive school culture where students with SEND are valued, supported, and integrated into the wider school community.
  • Lead awareness programmes that promote understanding, respect, empathy, and inclusion for students with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Promote safeguarding, student wellbeing, confidentiality, and safe learning practices across all SEND-related activities.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Special Education, Inclusive Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
  • SENDCO qualification or certification required.
  • Teaching qualification such as PGCE or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience with a focus on supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Previous experience in a SENDCO, inclusion coordinator, or inclusive education leadership role preferred.
  • Experience working in an inclusive education setting, especially in the UAE or a similar international school context.
  • In‑depth understanding of special educational needs and disabilities in mainstream school settings.
  • Strong knowledge of UAE laws and policies related to SEND and inclusive education.
  • Familiarity with the Dubai Inclusive Education Policy Framework considered an advantage.
  • Ability to create, implement, monitor, and evaluate Individualised Education Plans.
  • Strong leadership and management skills to guide teachers, learning support assistants, and support staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, staff, senior leaders, and external professionals.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to analyse student data, evaluate intervention impact, and prepare clear progress reports.
  • Professional approach to confidentiality, safeguarding, parent communication, student wellbeing, and inclusive practice.
