Rail Tunnel Inspector – Construction in Dubai is a specialized Civil Engineering opportunity for an experienced inspection professional who can monitor rail tunnel works, verify construction quality and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, railway standards, HSE procedures and contract requirements. The role is suited for a site-focused inspector with strong exposure to tunnel construction, metro infrastructure, underground transit, QA/QC procedures and rail safety environments.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed site inspections for rail tunnel works, including excavation, segmental lining, waterproofing, secondary lining, track bed works and related civil construction activities.
- Monitor contractor performance to confirm compliance with approved drawings, method statements, construction sequences, quality procedures and project specifications.
- Verify materials, workmanship, equipment installation, inspections, testing activities and construction outputs against contract requirements and rail industry standards.
- Ensure tunnel work areas follow railway‑specific safety requirements, including permits to work, safe access and egress, confined space controls and approved tunnel working procedures.
- Maintain accurate daily site records covering labour, plant, equipment, progress status, inspections, test results, site observations and non‑conformance reports.
- Report construction progress, quality concerns, safety observations and site non‑conformities to the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer.
- Assist in checking tunnel alignment, levels, surveying records, dimensional accuracy and as‑built documentation.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, client representatives, QA/QC teams, safety teams and technical specialists during inspections and site reviews.
- Witness testing, commissioning, handover inspections and close‑out activities while confirming that required documents are completed and submitted.
- Support the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer in resolving site issues and following up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Participate in safety inspections, audits, toolbox talks and site walks to support project HSE compliance.
- Review inspection requests, site documents, method statements, test records and quality documentation related to tunnel works.
- Monitor construction interfaces with associated civil works, track bed preparation, utility areas and rail systems installation where relevant.
- Track recurring defects, workmanship issues, construction delays and quality risks that may affect project delivery or handover readiness.
- Promote disciplined documentation and inspection practices to support QA/QC compliance, project controls and final completion records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or diploma in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering or an equivalent related discipline.
- 7‑10 years of construction inspection experience on major rail infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience inspecting tunnel works within rail, metro, underground transit or large infrastructure environments.
- Strong understanding of tunnelling methods, segmental lining, waterproofing, secondary lining, track bed works, surveying checks and civil construction quality.
- Good knowledge of rail standards, QA/QC inspection procedures, HSE requirements and site safety practices in tunnel or live rail environments.
- Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection test plans and technical documentation.
- Experience coordinating with contractors, engineers, client representatives and project supervision teams during site inspections.
- Strong reporting skills with the ability to maintain daily records, inspection notes, test logs, non‑conformance reports and close‑out documentation.
- Practical understanding of testing, commissioning, handover requirements and as‑built documentation for rail tunnel works.
- Detail‑oriented, safety‑conscious and able to identify construction issues before they affect quality, progress or compliance.
