As the Rail Tunnel Inspector, you will support safe, compliant, and high‑quality delivery of rail tunnel infrastructure by inspecting contractor activities throughout excavation, lining, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover stages. You will work closely with contractors, engineers, QA/QC teams, HSE teams, and client representatives to verify workmanship, identify non‑conformities, monitor alignment and settlement controls, and ensure corrective actions are completed on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect rail tunnel construction works including TBM excavation, segmental lining, grouting, waterproofing, cross passages, shafts, track bed construction, and associated civil works.
- Monitor contractor activities to confirm compliance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection and test plans, construction sequences, and railway standards.
- Verify materials and workmanship, testing, installation activities, and completed works against project quality requirements.
- Monitor TBM operations, segment erection, tunnel alignment, breakthrough readiness, settlement monitoring, and ground movement control measures.
- Check that tunnel works are completed within approved tolerances and report deviations, defects, or non‑compliant activities.
- Maintain accurate daily site records covering progress, resources, inspections, testing, quality observations, delays, and non‑conformities.
- Witness inspections, testing, commissioning, and handover activities for tunnel and associated rail infrastructure works.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, QA/QC teams, HSE personnel, and client representatives to resolve site issues.
- Ensure timely corrective actions are taken for quality concerns, safety observations, and construction non‑conformances.
- Review site activities against approved inspection and test plans, including hold points, witness points, and required documentation.
- Support verification of as‑built information, completed work quantities, field measurements, and construction records when required.
- Confirm that tunnel safety procedures, access controls, confined‑area rules, emergency arrangements, and HSE requirements are followed on site.
- Participate in site coordination discussions and provide clear technical inspection feedback to the supervision team.
- Support progress monitoring by identifying quality risks, construction constraints, and interface issues during tunnel works.
- Assist in final completion checks by verifying installation quality, test records, inspection closure, and handover readiness.
Ideal Profile
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7‑10 years of construction inspection experience on major rail, metro, underground infrastructure, or tunnel projects.
- Mandatory hands‑on experience on TBM tunnel projects.
- Experience on high‑speed rail or metro projects is preferred.
- Strong understanding of tunnel construction methods, railway standards, QA/QC procedures, inspection and test plans, and HSE requirements.
- Practical knowledge of TBM excavation, segmental lining, grouting, waterproofing, shafts, cross passages, track bed works, and underground civil construction.
- Ability to read and interpret approved drawings, specifications, method statements, construction procedures, and quality documentation.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects, non‑conformities, safety risks, and construction deviations.
- Good reporting skills for daily site records, inspection notes, progress updates, quality observations, and non‑conformance tracking.
- Confident communication skills for coordinating with contractors, engineers, supervision teams, and client representatives.
- Organized and reliable approach to field inspections, documentation control, site follow‑up, and compliance verification.
- Strong awareness of tunnel safety, rail project HSE procedures, and safe working practices in underground construction environments.
