Role Context

The Project Surveyor - Building Cost Management will support the commercial and financial control of building projects by converting architectural and engineering information into reliable quantities, estimates, and cost data. Working alongside project managers, designers, contractors, and other consultants, the surveyor will help maintain budget visibility, assess changes, identify cost risks, and provide the documentation required for informed project decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from architectural, structural, and engineering drawings for building projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates, bills of quantities, schedules, and supporting commercial documentation.
  • Analyze construction costs and produce clear cost reports, forecasts, and budget updates.
  • Track expenditure against approved budgets and highlight emerging cost variances.
  • Recommend practical cost control measures where potential overruns or commercial risks are identified.
  • Maintain accurate records of measurements, specifications, cost breakdowns, and project financial information.
  • Review tender documents, contracts, drawings, and specifications to identify commercial obligations and cost implications.
  • Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors to obtain accurate information for measurement and valuation.
  • Support the preparation and evaluation of variation orders and change order documentation.
  • Measure revised or additional works and assess their effect on project budgets.
  • Use quantity surveying and cost management systems to improve the accuracy and efficiency of measurement and reporting.
  • Prepare project cost information for internal reviews, client reporting, and commercial decision-making.
  • Assist with cost forecasting through different stages of design and construction.
  • Check that quantity surveying activities reflect applicable UAE construction standards and project requirements.
  • Provide professional cost advice to project stakeholders when evaluating design changes, procurement decisions, and construction alternatives.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor 's degree in Quantity Surveying.
  • 2-4 years of professional quantity surveying experience within the buildings sector.
  • Practical experience preparing quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bills of quantities.
  • Good understanding of building construction methods, materials, drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience monitoring budgets and preparing project cost reports and forecasts.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and engineering documentation accurately.
  • Familiarity with tender documentation, contracts, variations, and change management processes.
  • Working knowledge of UAE construction practices, regulations, and commercial requirements.
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability with careful attention to measurement accuracy.
  • Comfortable coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams and external contractors.
  • Able to manage several cost-related assignments while meeting project deadlines.
  • Experience using quantity surveying, estimating, spreadsheet, and project cost management tools.
