The Primary Music Teacher - Key Stage 1 and 2 will plan and deliver a progressive Music curriculum that develops performance, listening, rhythm, creativity, musical understanding, and confidence. The teacher will adapt instruction for students with different learning needs, including late-entering students, English language learners, students requiring additional academic support, and gifted learners. The position also contributes to student wellbeing, school events, co-curricular programmes, assessment, parent communication, and curriculum development. Through high-quality teaching and active participation in school life, the teacher will help students achieve strong academic and personal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the required Music curriculum across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
- Maintain accurate and current knowledge of curriculum standards, subject content, and effective teaching practices.
- Plan and deliver high-quality lessons that motivate students and support measurable progress.
- Create and use appropriate teaching materials, instruments, media, technology, and classroom resources.
- Adapt the classroom environment and learning activities to accommodate different learning styles.
- Maintain written evidence of lesson planning, preparation, curriculum maps, year plans, and assessment schedules.
- Keep accurate records of attendance, teaching resources, student attainment, progress, and intervention.
- Follow GEMS Education policies, procedures, professional standards, and codes of conduct.
- Differentiated instruction according to individual student needs and abilities.
- Support late-entering students, English language learners, students with lower academic attainment, and gifted learners.
- Set, mark, and review classwork, homework, practical tasks, and assessment activities.
- Assess and record students' academic development, musical skills, participation, and overall attainment.
- Use assessment results to modify teaching plans and ensure the curriculum meets individual needs.

- Participate in and lead co-curricular and extracurricular Music programmes when appropriate.
- Support choirs, instrumental groups, performances, concerts, assemblies, and school productions.
- Assist with inter-house competitions, prize days, cultural events, and other school functions.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, achievement, behaviour, and support needs.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling student and family information.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including Ministry of Education representatives, where required.
- Share ideas, resources, and successful teaching practices with colleagues.
- Demonstrate flexibility and commitment when school activities require additional time or support.

Ideal Profile
- Minimum bachelor's degree in Music.
- Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Minimum three years of proven teaching experience.
- Experience delivering Music lessons to primary students, preferably across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
- Strong understanding of curriculum planning, lesson delivery, assessment, and student progress monitoring.
- Excellent classroom management skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and school leaders.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
