Job summary

GEMS Metropole School Al Waha in Dubai seeks a qualified Secondary Music Teacher to cover KS3–KS5. You will deliver inspiring lessons and drive student participation in performance, composition and analysis while preparing GCSE and A Level work.

Qualifications

Role Context

The teacher will deliver a progressive curriculum that develops students’ performance, composition, listening, analysis and musical appreciation skills across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, including preparation for GCSE and A Level Music or equivalent qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging Music lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Teach GCSE and A Level Music or equivalent examination courses.
  • Follow approved curriculum requirements, examination specifications and departmental schemes of work.
  • Develop students’ practical performance, composition, listening, analysis and musical literacy.
  • Teach relevant music theory, notation, harmony, rhythm, structure and historical context.
  • Use live demonstration, digital resources, group performance and independent practice to deepen learning.
  • Create coherent lesson sequences that ensure appropriate progression across year groups.
  • Differentiated instruction for students with varied musical experience, ability and learning needs.
  • Support students preparing solo and ensemble performances for assessments and examinations.
  • Guide composition coursework from initial ideas through development, refinement and final submission.
  • Prepare students effectively for written examinations, practical assessments and controlled coursework.
  • Use formative and summative assessment to monitor attainment and identify learning gaps.
  • Provide precise feedback that helps students improve musical technique, interpretation and academic understanding.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment, progress and intervention.
  • Analyse achievement data and adapt teaching plans to improve student outcomes.
  • Establish an inclusive classroom environment that encourages confidence, experimentation and respectful collaboration.
  • Maintain clear expectations for rehearsal discipline, instrument care and safe use of equipment.
  • Lead or contribute to school concerts, productions, assemblies and performance showcases.
  • Direct or support ensembles, choirs, bands and other student music groups.
  • Coordinate rehearsals, performance schedules, repertoire, technical requirements and student participation.
  • Collaborate with Drama, Performing Arts and other departments on productions and interdisciplinary projects.
  • Support extracurricular clubs, enrichment programmes and community music events.
  • Communicate student progress clearly to parents through reports, conferences and approved channels.
  • Work constructively with colleagues, school leaders and visiting music professionals.
  • Maintain current knowledge of curriculum developments, examination requirements and music education practice.
  • Participate in professional learning, departmental planning and school improvement initiatives.
  • Model the school values of curiosity, confidence, creativity, respect and kindness.
  • Follow safeguarding, child protection, health and safety and school compliance procedures.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor of Education degree or a bachelor’s degree in Music or a related subject.
  • Recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, PGDE or an equivalent credential.
  • Proven experience teaching Music across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Experience delivering GCSE and A Level Music or equivalent curricula.
  • Strong subject knowledge across performance, composition, theory and musical analysis.
  • Ability to deliver challenging and inclusive lessons for students of different abilities.
  • Demonstrated record of providing high‑quality teaching and improving student outcomes.
  • Passion for music education and developing students’ creative and technical talents.
  • Experience leading or supporting concerts, productions, ensembles, choirs or bands.
  • Confidence directing rehearsals and preparing students for public performance.
  • Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to use assessment information to improve teaching and provide targeted intervention.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues and school leaders.
