Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and well‑structured Music lessons for secondary students across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
- Teach GCSE and A Level Music or equivalent curriculum content with strong subject knowledge and clear learning outcomes.
- Develop students’ skills in performance, composition, listening, musical analysis, creativity and appreciation of different musical styles.
- Plan lessons that inspire curiosity, confidence, creativity, respect and kindness while meeting the needs of diverse learners.
- Use varied teaching methods, practical activities, digital music tools, classroom resources and assessment strategies to support student progress.
- Prepare students for internal assessments, public examinations, performances, recitals, concerts and school productions.
- Create a positive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to participate, perform, collaborate and take creative risks.
- Support the wider Music Department through concerts, ensembles, choirs, productions, rehearsals, performances and extracurricular activities.
- Monitor, assess, record and report student progress in line with school expectations and curriculum requirements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, department leaders, parents and school leadership to support student achievement and wellbeing.
- Contribute actively to school life through community events, enrichment activities, cultural programmes and performing arts initiatives.
- Maintain high professional standards in planning, teaching, communication, safeguarding and student care.
- Follow GEMS Education policies, school procedures, safeguarding requirements and professional codes of conduct at all times.
Ideal Profile
- BEd or Bachelor’s degree in Music or a closely related subject.
- PGCE, PGDE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Proven experience teaching Music across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
- Experience teaching GCSE and A Level Music or equivalent international curricula.
- Strong passion for music education and a clear commitment to developing students’ musical talents.
- Ability to deliver outstanding teaching and learning experiences that challenge, motivate and support all learners.
- Experience leading or contributing to concerts, productions, ensembles, choirs, rehearsals or extracurricular music activities.
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to create an inclusive and creative learning environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with students, parents, colleagues and school leaders.
- Willingness to contribute positively to school life through extracurricular programmes and community events.

- UK‑enhanced DBS or equivalent police clearance required for appointment.
