Role Context
The Music Teacher will help students develop technical ability, creativity, confidence and an appreciation of music through a balance of practical performance, listening, composition and musical understanding. The role extends beyond scheduled lessons and contributes to the artistic identity of the school. Through concerts, productions, ensembles and enrichment activities, the teacher will create opportunities for students of different abilities to participate, perform and build confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Music lessons that support creativity, musical understanding and progressive skill development.
- Teach appropriate elements of performance, composition, listening, rhythm, melody, harmony and musical interpretation.
- Create practical learning experiences that encourage students to perform individually and collaboratively.
- Develop students' confidence when rehearsing, presenting and performing music in front of different audiences.
- Use varied teaching approaches to support learners with different abilities, interests and levels of prior musical experience.
- Assess student achievement through performance, practical work, composition, listening activities and appropriate written tasks.
- Provide clear and constructive feedback that helps students improve technique, musicality and confidence.
- Prepare lesson resources, rehearsal materials and creative activities that maintain high levels of student engagement.
- Encourage students to explore different musical genres, styles, cultures and forms of expression.
- Support individual musicians as well as ensembles, groups and collaborative performance projects.
- Contribute to school concerts, productions, assemblies, showcases and other performance events.
- Plan and support rehearsals so students are well prepared for public performances and school productions.
- Participate in enrichment programmes, music clubs, workshops and extracurricular activities.
- Promote an inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable experimenting, creating and performing.
- Work collaboratively with Performing Arts colleagues and other departments on interdisciplinary projects where appropriate.
- Maintain suitable organisation of musical resources, instruments, rehearsal spaces and teaching materials.
- Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues regarding student development, participation and achievement.
- Contribute to school events, community engagement and wider creative initiatives.
- Participate in professional development and continue strengthening subject knowledge and teaching practice.
- Maintain safeguarding, health and safety and professional standards in accordance with school policies.
Ideal Profile
- Candidates should hold a bachelor 's degree in Music or a closely related subject together with a recognised professional teaching qualification.
- The successful applicant will demonstrate strong subject knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for Music education, performance and creative development.
- Applicants should be able to motivate students of different abilities while maintaining high expectations for participation, improvement and achievement.
- Experience delivering practical music lessons and supporting performances, productions or extracurricular musical activities will be particularly valuable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, together with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
- Candidates should also be willing to contribute beyond classroom teaching through concerts, productions, performances, enrichment programmes and community activities.
