Role Context

The Planning Engineer will provide the scheduling and performance visibility needed to keep complex construction activities aligned with contractual milestones, available resources and project budgets. The position requires detailed understanding of how site activities interact so that schedule risks, resource constraints and emerging delays can be identified before they significantly affect delivery. Working between project management, engineering and construction teams, the Planning Engineer will translate site progress into reliable planning information. Schedule analysis, performance reporting and corrective planning will help management make informed decisions while maintaining coordination between contractors, subcontractors and technical disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed construction schedules covering project activities, milestones, dependencies and delivery targets.
  • Establish planning structures and activity sequences that accurately reflect approved construction methodologies.
  • Build, maintain and update project programs using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling platforms.
  • Monitor actual progress against baseline and current schedules and highlight significant deviations.
  • Analyze schedule performance to identify delays, critical activities, resource constraints and emerging risks.
  • Prepare look-ahead schedules to support short-term construction planning and site coordination.
  • Produce regular progress reports, schedule updates and performance information for management and project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors and subcontractors to obtain accurate progress and forecast information.
  • Review construction sequencing and recommend adjustments that improve productivity and project performance.
  • Evaluate labor, equipment and material requirements against scheduled activities and planned workloads.
  • Support efficient resource allocation across active construction work fronts.
  • Track project milestones and elevate potential slippage requiring management intervention.
  • Develop recovery and corrective action plans where actual performance falls behind approved targets.
  • Support budget monitoring and cost control by aligning planning information with project performance.
  • Participate in site meetings and communicate schedule priorities, constraints and upcoming activities.
  • Conduct site reviews to validate reported construction progress against physical completion.
  • Identify planning and execution risks and contribute practical mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate schedule interfaces between architectural, engineering, contractor and subcontractor activities.
  • Maintain planning records, approved schedules, revisions, change information and relevant project correspondence.
  • Provide planning input for change orders and evaluate potential impacts on project timelines.
  • Ensure planning activities reflect UAE construction requirements, project procedures and applicable safety considerations.
  • Provide technical planning guidance to site supervisors and construction personnel.
  • Analyze construction methods and recommend sequencing or workflow improvements that can increase productivity.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should have at least 8 years of experience in construction planning, project scheduling or construction supervision, preferably involving large-scale projects from planning through completion. Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 is important, with Microsoft Project or comparable planning software providing additional value. Candidates should understand schedule development, activity relationships, progress updating, performance measurement and corrective planning. A solid construction background is required to evaluate sequencing, resource requirements and the practical impact of schedule decisions on site execution. Experience with budget management, cost control and financial analysis will further support effective project planning. Knowledge of risk management and the ability to identify schedule threats and develop workable mitigation measures are important. Familiarity with UAE construction regulations, building codes and local compliance requirements is also expected. The successful candidate should be capable of coordinating multiple priorities while communicating effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, subcontractors and site teams.
