The Performing Arts Teacher will create an environment where students can explore creativity, communication, movement, character, storytelling, and stage performance with confidence. The role combines curriculum teaching with practical rehearsal, production work, enrichment activities, and opportunities for students to perform before wider audiences. A key objective is to ensure that Performing Arts remains inclusive and accessible to students of different abilities and confidence levels. Through structured teaching and practical performance experiences, the teacher will help students strengthen artistic expression, teamwork, presentation ability, discipline, and self-confidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging Performing Arts and Drama lessons that develop creativity, performance technique, confidence, and communication.
  • Introduce students to appropriate elements of acting, character development, improvisation, scripted performance, movement, voice, and stagecraft.
  • Create practical learning experiences that encourage students to experiment, rehearse, reflect, and improve their performance.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support students with different abilities, interests, prior experience, and levels of confidence.
  • Establish a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing ideas and taking creative risks.
  • Assess student progress through practical performance, class participation, creative projects, rehearsals, and appropriate written work.
  • Provide constructive feedback that helps students improve technique, interpretation, expression, and stage confidence.
  • Develop lesson resources, rehearsal materials, performance activities, and curriculum plans that maintain strong academic and creative standards.
  • Encourage students to work collaboratively through ensemble performance, group projects, and production-based learning.
  • Support the planning and delivery of school plays, showcases, assemblies, performances, and other Performing Arts events.
  • Organise rehearsals and help students prepare for live performances and school productions.
  • Contribute to enrichment activities, drama clubs, performance workshops, and creative programmes outside regular lessons.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across subject areas where interdisciplinary projects can strengthen student learning.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and communicate appropriately regarding student participation, development, and achievement.
  • Maintain professional standards in rehearsal spaces, classrooms, performance areas, and school events.
  • Contribute actively to the wider school community through cultural activities, performances, celebrations, and community engagement.
  • Participate in professional development and continually strengthen subject knowledge and teaching practice.

Candidates should hold a bachelor 's degree in Performing Arts, Drama, Theatre, or a closely related discipline together with a recognised professional teaching qualification.
