Job summary

AECOM Middle East Ltd in Dubai is seeking a Materials Inspector – Civil Infrastructure to oversee inspection of construction materials, verify compliance with submittals, specs, drawings and contract requirements, and witness lab tests.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all construction materials delivered to the site before acceptance or installation.
  • Confirm compliance with approved submittals, technical specifications, drawings, and contract requirements.
  • Review delivery notes, source approvals, batch certificates, manufacturer documents, and test reports.
  • Verify materials are supplied by approved manufacturers, vendors, quarries, batching plants, and laboratories.
  • Collect samples and witness laboratory and field testing according to approved inspection and test plans.
  • Monitor testing of soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, reinforcement steel, and other civil materials.
  • Check materials for roads, bridges, drainage networks, utilities, earthworks, and structures.
  • Observe concrete works, verify delivery documentation, sampling, placement and test arrangements.

Role Overview

Materials Inspector – Civil Infrastructure

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Industry: Civil Engineering – Building & Construction Inspection
Job Type: Full‑time
Estimated Salary: AED 8,000–12,000 per month

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect all construction materials delivered to the site before acceptance or installation.
  • Confirm compliance with approved submittals, technical specifications, drawings, and contract requirements.
  • Review delivery notes, source approvals, batch certificates, manufacturer documents, and test reports.
  • Verify materials are supplied by approved manufacturers, vendors, quarries, batching plants, and laboratories.
  • Collect samples and witness laboratory and field testing in accordance with approved inspection and test plans.
  • Monitor testing of soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, reinforcement steel, and other civil construction materials.
  • Check materials for roads, bridges, culverts, drainage networks, utilities, earthworks, and structural works.
  • Inspect asphalt paving activities and confirm approved mix designs are used.
  • Observe concrete works, verify delivery documentation, sampling, placement requirements, and test arrangements.
  • Review earthworks, filling, compaction, and backfilling operations for material suitability and specification compliance.
  • Monitor material storage, segregation, identification, handling, and protection at site.
  • Prevent use of contaminated, damaged, deteriorated, mixed, or incorrectly stored materials.
  • Coordinate with the Material Engineer and Site Engineer regarding inspection priorities and testing schedules.
  • Review work inspection requests related to material acceptance and civil construction activities.
  • Maintain organized inspection records, material registers, test logs, and supporting QA/QC documentation.
  • Record accepted, rejected, quarantined, and pending materials with clear traceability.
  • Identify non‑conforming materials and issue non‑conformance reports or site observations where required.
  • Monitor corrective actions and verify that identified material issues are properly resolved.
  • Check material consumption and quantities to identify wastage, misuse, substitution, or unauthorized deviation.
  • Provide documentation and on‑site assistance during RTA inspections, audits, and technical reviews.
  • Follow approved health, safety, and environmental procedures during sampling, testing, and material handling.
  • Prepare daily reports covering material deliveries, inspections, tests, approvals, rejections, and outstanding actions.
  • Escalate significant quality concerns to the Material Engineer or Resident Engineer without delay.
  • Support preparation of as‑built and project handover records related to materials and testing.
  • Attend in‑person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office as a condition of employment.
Ideal Profile
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Practical experience in construction material inspection, field sampling, or laboratory testing.
  • Previous exposure to roads, bridges, drainage, utilities, or major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of soil, aggregate, asphalt, concrete, steel, fill, and backfill materials.
  • Ability to understand approved material submittals, specifications, drawings, method statements, and inspection and test plans.
  • Familiarity with supplier approvals, source documentation, batch certificates, and laboratory test reports.
  • Experience preparing work inspection requests, inspection records, NCRs, site observations, and test registers.
  • Understanding of RTA requirements and UAE infrastructure quality procedures is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to material traceability, documentation accuracy, and specification compliance.
  • Ability to identify defective or unapproved materials before they are incorporated into permanent works.
  • Good coordination skills for working with engineers, contractors, laboratories, suppliers, and quality personnel.
  • Willingness to work across active construction areas and changing site conditions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to safe inspection, sampling, and testing practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple inspections and testing activities within project deadlines.
