Role Context
The Manager – Procurement Operations will support Amazon's Site Procurement Operations function and oversee purchasing activities that keep fulfillment centers and delivery stations operating efficiently. The role will manage a team of approximately 5 to 10 Senior Buyers, Procurement Coordinators, and other procurement professionals working across multiple facilities. The manager will ensure standardized procurement processes, reliable availability of non‑merchandise goods and services, effective contract compliance, and strong supplier performance. Daily decisions will influence operational readiness, inventory availability, fixed costs, payment accuracy, and the continuity of Amazon's fulfillment and delivery network.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5 to 10 procurement operations professionals and coordinators.
- Set clear performance objectives and maintain consistent procurement standards across multiple Amazon buildings.
- Monitor employee performance, provide regular feedback, and support professional development.
- Standardize purchasing processes and fulfillment center service activities across the assigned network.
- Manage complex procurement and supply chain requirements for operational, building, and network projects.
- Coordinate the identification, sourcing, purchasing, and inventory management of non‑merchandise goods.
- Ensure fulfillment centers and delivery stations receive essential supplies and services within required timelines.
- Work with Non‑Inventory Receivers, Procurement Coordinators, and fulfillment center management to coordinate material flow.
- Support the effective use of storage space, labor, docks, yards, and receiving areas.
- Monitor stock availability and identify potential shortages that could affect operational readiness.
- Develop procurement and supply metrics that measure supplier performance, material availability, and site preparedness.
- Use data to identify purchasing risks, recurring delays, inventory issues, and process gaps.
- Manage supplier relationships and ensure vendors meet delivery, quality, service, and contractual requirements.
- Establish supplier performance reviews, scorecards, service‑level measures, and corrective action plans.
- Escalate significant supplier risks and coordinate recovery actions with relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee compliance with contracts covering key spend categories, goods, and operational services.
- Administer and organize national and regional supply and service agreements.
- Ensure approved contract terms, pricing, service levels, and purchasing procedures are followed.
- Resolve invoice, purchase order, and payment issues with vendors and accounts payable teams.
- Investigate mismatches involving quantities, pricing, approvals, receipts, and payment documentation.
- Partner with internal customers to influence purchasing decisions and improve cost discipline.
- Support the management and reduction of fixed operational cost without affecting service quality.
- Lead strategic planning sessions with country and regional stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for supplier consolidation, demand planning, standardization, and procurement efficiency.
- Execute local and regional procurement improvement projects.
- Develop project plans, schedules, performance indicators, risk controls, and implementation mechanisms.
- Work cross‑functionally with Operations, Finance, Accounts Payable, Procurement, Facilities, and support departments.
- Maintain accurate supplier records, contract information, purchase documentation, project trackers, and leadership reports.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, procurement, business administration, logistics, operations, or a related discipline.
- Alternatively, at least 2 years of permanent Amazon employment experience may be considered.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in supply chain management, including logistics, inventory planning, forecasting, purchasing, or operations.
- At least 5 years of employee and performance management experience.
- Proven experience managing procurement professionals, buyers, coordinators, or supply chain teams.
- Experience using enterprise resource planning and procurement systems.
- Practical knowledge of Oracle, Coupa, and Ariba is required.
- Strong supplier and vendor relationship management experience.
- Ability to manage service‑level agreements, supplier scorecards, delivery performance, and quality compliance.
- Experience administering contracts and monitoring commercial compliance.
- Strong understanding of purchase orders, receiving, invoicing, accounts payable, and payment resolution.
- Experience supporting fulfillment centers, distribution centers, warehouses, or delivery operations is preferred.
- Familiarity with environments employing both hourly and salaried staff is advantageous.
- Strong analytical ability with experience developing procurement and operational metrics.
- Ability to influence spending decisions and balance cost, service, quality, and operational risk.
- Strong project‑management capability with experience leading regional improvement initiatives.
- Excellent stakeholder‑management skills across different functions and levels of seniority.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- CIPS qualification is preferred.
