Job Description: Manager Design & Process Automation (SPM)
Position: Manager Design & Process Automation (SPM) Department: Mechanical Engineering / Design
Reports To: R&D Lead Senior Manager
Requirement: Immediate 3 months
Budget: AED 1250016000 per month (max 17,000)
Type: Full-time; office/design studio with plant visits
Job Purpose
The Manager Design & Process Automation will lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), automation solutions, and new product designs. The role owns the complete lifecycle from concept and mechanical/electrical design through prototyping, optimization, commissioning, and technical documentation while managing cross-functional collaboration to meet manufacturing, quality, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Management: Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for SPM and product design programs in collaboration with cross-functional teams, aligned to manufacturing processes and performance objectives.
- Conceptual & Product Design: Generate innovative machine and product concepts from customer requirements and engineering specifications; conduct feasibility studies and evaluate alternative design approaches to select the optimal solution.
- Mechanical Design: Design mechanical components and systems mechanisms, frames, and tooling fixtures using CAD software to create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings compliant with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Electrical & Control Systems: Specify and select electrical and control components such as motors, drives, and sensors to meet machine performance requirements.
- Prototyping & Testing: Build and test prototypes to validate design concepts, functionality, and reliability; analyse test data and coordinate with manufacturing and assembly teams for fabrication.
- Design Optimization: Iterate on designs based on test feedback to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of maintenance; lead design reviews and capture lessons learned.
- Commissioning & Deployment: Lead commissioning and deployment of SPMs at customer/production sites, ensuring correct setup, calibration, and testing; train operators and maintenance personnel.
- Technical Documentation: Create and maintain design specifications, engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOM); keep documentation accurate and current across the product development lifecycle.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Quality Assurance to ensure designs meet project requirements and quality standards.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve design and engineering challenges promptly, proposing innovative solutions to optimize machine and product performance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards; stay current on regulatory changes affecting design and development.
- Engineer-to-Order (ETO) Design: Develop custom machine designs from unique customer requirements where no standard or off-the-shelf solution exists, translating functional needs into complete, manufacturable engineering packages.
- Ground-Up Machine Development: Lead new machine development from scratch concept, calculations, detailed design, and BOM for special-purpose machines with no market equivalent, taking full design ownership from a blank sheet to a working machine.
- Design for In-House Fabrication: Leverage full in-house manufacturing capability by designing components optimized for internal fabrication processes (welding, machining, sheet metal), enabling rapid prototyping, design iteration, and complete build control without external dependency.
