Maintenance Assistant – Facilities for a retail environment in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This full‑time role supports building upkeep, MEP systems, safety compliance, contractor coordination and overall store reliability at an IKEA retail location. The role ensures electrical, mechanical, civil, HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, lighting, signage and building management systems are maintained to high operational standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the planned maintenance process to keep the store, building assets and non‑selling furniture in excellent condition.
- Rectify breakdowns, complete work orders and carry out preventive maintenance tasks according to approved schedules.
- Assist with maintenance activities covering electrical systems, mechanical systems, civil works, cladding, signage, lighting, plumbing, HVAC, ventilation, firefighting systems, and related building services.
- Survey MEP systems and equipment, checking system status, readings, operating conditions and maintenance requirements against operation and maintenance manuals.
- Support predictive, preventive, and reactive maintenance routines to improve reliability and reduce disruption to store operations.
- Perform and supervise modification, renovation, enhancement, and repair works when required.
- Coordinate with third‑party contractors, service providers, facility management technicians, and external supervisors to ensure maintenance tasks are completed properly.
- Review contractor work quality, monitor progress and support invoice certification for completed services.
- Arrange technical and financial offers for operation spare parts, maintenance materials, MEP requirements, civil works and fixing‑related tasks.
- Prepare technical reports, maintenance updates, progress review reports and supporting documentation for facility activities.
- Support the development and review of HSM SOPs, routines and facility department procedures.
- Follow HSE policies, OSHA standards, IKEA risk manual requirements and local safety regulations at all times.
- Assist with evacuation drills, emergency preparedness activities and safety‑related facility matters.
- Maintain a service‑oriented working relationship with store departments, responding to maintenance needs with professionalism and urgency.
- Identify practical ways to simplify work, improve efficiency, control maintenance costs and support sustainability requirements.

Ideal Profile
- Diploma in technical industrial education, preferably in electrical or mechanical discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in maintenance, facilities management, building services or retail facility operations.
- Good knowledge of HVAC, firefighting, plumbing, ventilation, electrical systems, building management systems and general MEP maintenance.
- Familiarity with chilled water systems and energy transfer stations is required.
- Practical experience in planned preventive maintenance, reactive maintenance, equipment inspections, work orders and contractor coordination.
- Ability to understand operation and maintenance manuals, technical readings, facility reports and system condition checks.
- Strong awareness of HSE standards, local safety regulations, risk control and safe work practices.
- Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting, documentation, trackers and maintenance records.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate with internal departments, external contractors, technicians and supervisors.
- Good leadership qualities, including active listening, problem‑solving, follow‑up and the ability to guide maintenance activities on site.
- Service‑focused mindset with the ability to work efficiently in a busy retail environment.
- Understanding of sustainability needs, energy efficiency and responsible facility management practices.
