Role Context

The role focuses on hazard identification, risk assessment, process safety audits, incident learning, safety documentation, and continuous improvement of operational integrity systems. It has a direct impact on safe production, regulatory compliance, process reliability, and the prevention of major accident hazards within a high‑risk environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out process safety and risk assessments to identify hazards, evaluate exposure, and recommend practical controls for safer plant operations.
  • Conduct hazard identification, HAZOP, and process hazard analysis studies to assess process risks and support effective mitigation planning.
  • Prepare action plans for identified process safety risks and follow up on the closeout of recommendations from process safety studies.
  • Monitor and report process safety leading and lagging performance indicators in line with company Process Safety KPI metrics.
  • Support management decision‑making by providing reliable process safety performance data, trend insights, and risk‑based recommendations.
  • Carry out trend analysis of plant process safety KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of current systems, controls, and operating practices.
  • Highlight process safety gaps and coordinate corrective actions to strengthen assurance, compliance, and operational integrity.
  • Conduct level‑1 audits for process safety and operational integrity to verify effective implementation of approved processes.
  • Follow up on audit findings, process safety study actions, and related recommendations until full closeout is achieved.
  • Verify that process safety documentation is available, accurate, updated, and aligned with approved procedures and process safety standards.
  • Investigate near‑miss incidents related to process safety and recommend actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and analyze Ensure Safe Production elements, including shift handover, shift meetings, and related operational routines.
  • Support Operations Excellence teams in implementing operational integrity initiatives and Ensure Safe Production elements at plant level.
  • Provide support for Learning from Incident activities by conducting gap analysis related to process safety alerts.
  • Help improve process safety culture by sharing incident learning, technical findings, and preventive recommendations across plant teams.
  • Recommend solutions for process safety problem areas to support safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.
  • Update existing procedures related to process safety whenever required and ensure alignment with the company process safety management framework.
  • Ensure process safety procedures comply with HSEMS, ADNOC standards, company requirements, and applicable industry codes.
  • Participate in HSE impact assessment studies and review major accident hazards to ensure safety critical elements are properly identified.
  • Support Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services teams in preparing, reviewing, and maintaining process safety documentation.
  • Prepare and conduct process safety training and awareness sessions for employees at different levels within the plant.
  • Support HSE Division in periodic process safety campaigns that promote awareness, prevention, and asset integrity.
  • Review, consolidate, and present technical reports related to process safety management, risk assessments, audit findings, and action tracking.
  • Use process safety tools and software such as HYSYS and PHA‑PRO where required to support studies, reviews, and technical analysis.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum six years of experience in process safety management within a large industrial organization.
  • Experience in the Oil and Energy sector is strongly preferred, especially within refinery, gas processing, petrochemical, upstream, downstream, or large plant operations.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety management, risk assessment studies, process hazard analysis, and hazard operability evaluation.
  • Practical experience in reviewing, consolidating, and presenting technical reports related to process safety management.
  • Solid understanding of process safety management codes, standards, procedures, and assurance requirements.
  • Very strong knowledge of HSE procedures, safe operating practices, operational integrity systems, and plant safety expectations.
  • Ability to investigate process safety near misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Familiarity with leading and lagging process safety indicators, KPI trend analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Experience supporting audits, action close‑out, procedure updates, and compliance reviews.
  • Ability to coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Technical Services, HSE, and Operations Excellence teams.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to deliver training, prepare awareness sessions, and promote process safety culture.
  • Software knowledge of HYSYS and PHA‑PRO is recommended.
  • Professional certification related to process safety, HSE, risk management, or process hazard analysis will be an advantage.
