Role Context
The IT Application Specialist works with users, Subject Matter Experts, ADNOC Group IT teams, infrastructure specialists, and other stakeholders to translate operational requirements into secure, maintainable, and effective applications. A significant part of the role involves enterprise and e-Learning systems, including configuration, integration, deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing enhancement. The position also supports application lifecycle management by maintaining documentation, monitoring performance, resolving incidents, and ensuring software changes remain aligned with business and technical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance IT applications that support ATA business and operational requirements.
- Design and implement enterprise application solutions in accordance with approved ADNOC technology standards.
- Support the development, integration, and operation of enterprise e-Learning solutions.
- Conduct periodic capacity planning for application systems and assess whether resources can support current and anticipated requirements.
- Identify application capacity constraints and recommend appropriate improvements before they affect service performance.
- Review application objectives, input requirements, output requirements, and business expectations with relevant stakeholders.
- Analyze user requirements and translate them into clear functional and technical specifications.
- Develop prototypes where appropriate to validate business requirements and proposed application solutions.
- Organize application requirements into logical programming and implementation sequences.
- Prepare workflow charts, process diagrams, and technical models based on business processes and system requirements.
- Convert approved workflow and functional requirements into appropriate application code.
- Implement modifications and enhancements to existing applications as business requirements evolve.
- Conduct application testing to confirm functionality, performance, processing accuracy, and expected outputs.
- Modify application logic, sequences, or code to resolve identified defects and functional gaps.
- Develop validation and checking mechanisms that protect data consistency and processing integrity.
- Establish controls that enable early identification of software defects, exceptions, processing errors, and application issues.
- Diagnose application problems and implement appropriate corrective solutions.
- Coordinate with relevant technical teams to build, test, release, and deploy application changes.
- Manage application configuration, integration, and software deployment activities.
- Coordinate with infrastructure teams to resolve technical issues affecting connectivity or interoperability between ATA and ADNOC environments.
- Monitor application performance and conduct periodic system tuning and optimization.
- Identify opportunities to improve application responsiveness, stability, capacity, and overall user experience.
- Coordinate application incidents throughout the incident management lifecycle.
- Investigate application-related incidents and work with appropriate technical teams to restore services efficiently.
- Communicate with Subject Matter Experts to understand operational processes and develop appropriate business models.
- Translate business models and functional requirements into implementable technical requirements.
- Support integration between applications, enterprise systems, infrastructure components, and relevant digital services.
- Prepare clear user manuals and supporting application documentation.
- Provide training and guidance to end users following application implementations, enhancements, or process changes.
- Maintain historical records covering application development, revisions, configuration changes, and releases.
- Document technical modifications and maintain appropriate records throughout the application lifecycle.
- Ensure application activities comply with ADNOC IT policies, procedures, security requirements, and technical standards.
- Encourage innovative approaches to application development and information service delivery.
- Support Change Management initiatives associated with new applications, enhancements, and technology-driven process improvements.
- Identify digital tools and techniques that improve the quality and efficiency of application development and support processes.
- Review internal application processes against relevant industry practices and recommend improvements.
- Plan, supervise, and coordinate assigned activities to achieve functional objectives.
- Train and develop assigned personnel to strengthen application development and technical support capabilities.
- Provide input into departmental and section budgets and support implementation of approved work plans.
- Monitor significant cost and performance variances and provide appropriate information for corrective action.
- Contribute to departmental performance objectives and established service targets.
- Comply with applicable legislation, HSE requirements, sustainability guidelines, and ADNOC Codes of Practice.
- Provide technical and operational information for MIS reports, progress reports, and management updates.
- Maintain effective working relationships with ATA end users, departmental management, ADNOC Group Information Technology, Audit and Assurance, and relevant corporate functions.
Ideal Profile
The successful candidate should hold a Bachelor 's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or an equivalent professional qualification. A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in application development or a closely related IT discipline is required, preferably within the oil and gas industry or another large enterprise environment. Candidates should demonstrate practical experience in systems analysis, application design, programming, software testing, deployment, integration, troubleshooting, and technologies relevant to enterprise application development. Experience with web-based application architecture is required, together with an understanding of application lifecycle management, system configuration, performance monitoring, incident resolution, and technical documentation. The role requires the ability to communicate effectively with business users and Subject Matter Experts, understand operational requirements, and convert those requirements into practical technical solutions. Experience supporting enterprise e-Learning platforms, integrated corporate applications, or similar digital learning environments would be particularly relevant to the position.
