Role Context
The Inventory Controller - Retail Stock will support GMG's retail operations by ensuring that stock records, delivered goods, transfers, returns, damaged items, and inventory counts are properly controlled.
This role helps protect sales availability, reduce stock discrepancies, improve replenishment accuracy, and maintain clean stock movement records. By coordinating with store operations and warehouse teams, the position contributes to smoother retail performance, stronger inventory discipline, and better control of stock‑related costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain inventory and stock management systems accurately within approved business parameters.
- Receive delivered supplies, materials, products, and equipment while checking them against purchase order specifications.
- Verify quantity, condition, model number, item details, and supporting documents before accepting stock into the system.
- Complete all required receiving paperwork and ensure stock records are updated correctly.
- Manage stock movements in and out of the store and maintain a complete log of transfers, deliveries, returns, and adjustments.
- Ensure all stock movement is matched with transfer documents and properly controlled through scanning and system updates.
- Monitor stock levels against agreed inventory limits and highlight discrepancies, shortages, excess stock, or unusual movement.
- Alert the store manager when stock levels approach or exceed the defined budget or inventory threshold.
- Administer the returns process and manage a dedicated area for returns, credits, expired items, damaged goods, and unsaleable products.
- Maintain the storeroom layout, stock allocation, storage discipline, product segregation, and space utilization.
- Ensure the storeroom follows defined company standards, safety expectations, and operational regulations.
- Supervise the implementation of health and safety procedures within stock handling and storage areas.
- Coordinate with store operations teams to identify damaged stock and prepare approved lists for warehouse transfer.
- Ensure damaged stock is scanned, packed, documented, and dispatched to the warehouse after receiving necessary approvals.
- Execute weekly cycle counts based on system reports and investigate differences between physical and system stock.
- Assist with the annual physical inventory count and support accurate reconciliation of store stock records.
- Work with retail teams to support replenishment planning, product availability, and smooth stock flow to the sales floor.
Ideal Profile
- Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in inventory control, stock management, retail operations, or store stockroom management.
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar inventory, stock controller, or replenishment‑focused role.
- Strong product or category knowledge within a retail environment.
- Practical understanding of stock receiving, transfers, returns, damage control, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliation.
- Experience using stock management systems, scanning processes, and inventory reports.
- Ability to verify purchase order details, delivery documents, quantities, product condition, and model information accurately.
- Good awareness of retail stock budgets, inventory parameters, stock availability, and shrinkage control.
- Organized approach to storeroom management, space allocation, product handling, and documentation.
- Ability to coordinate with store operations, warehouse teams, managers, and support functions.
- Reliable, detail‑oriented, and able to work with accuracy in a busy retail environment.
- Understanding of health and safety procedures related to stock storage and movement.
