Simone's Tutoring is seeking an International Sign Tutor to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners and professionals across global communities. The role involves delivering personalised IS instruction, assessing learner needs, and fostering intercultural communication in varied settings including online, homes, and schools.

The tutor will develop vocabulary, visual grammar, classifiers, and non-manual features, while adapting lessons for diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Studies or related field.
• MOHRE Tutor Permit or eligibility to obtain.
• Minimum 2 years’ International Sign teaching or related Deaf community work.
• Proficiency in International Sign.
• Experience with diverse linguistic/cultural backgrounds.
• Professional certification in sign language (preferred).
• Experience with international Deaf events (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Assess learners' communication abilities, signing experience, and objectives.
• Deliver one-to-one or small-group International Sign lessons.
• Teach receptive and expressive International Sign.
• Develop vocabulary, visual grammar, classifiers, fingerspelling, and non-manuals.
• Support learners for conferences, travel, education, humanitarian work.
• Adapt lessons for Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing learners.
• Incorporate Deaf culture and cross-cultural etiquette into instruction.
• Use interactive activities and authentic scenarios.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to students and parents.
• Collaborate with Simone's Tutoring specialists.

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and culturally aware International Sign (IS) Tutorto support Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners, hearing professionals, families, and individuals who communicate across international sign language communities.

The successful candidate will deliver personalised instruction in International Sign (IS), helping learners develop receptive and expressive communication skills for international travel, conferences, educational settings, humanitarian work, sporting events, and multicultural environments. The tutor should foster confidence, intercultural awareness, and effective visual communication while adapting lessons to learners' backgrounds and goals.

Key Responsibilities

Assess learners' communication abilities, signing experience, and learning objectives

Deliver personalised one-to-one or small-group International Sign lessons

Teach receptive and expressive International Sign communication

Develop learners' vocabulary, visual grammar, classifiers, fingerspelling, and non-manual features used within International Sign

Support learners preparing for international conferences, educational programmes, travel, volunteer work, and multicultural communication

Adapt lessons for Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing learners

Incorporate Deaf culture, international communication etiquette, and cross-cultural awareness into instruction

Use interactive activities, role-play, visual resources, and authentic communication scenarios

Monitor learner progress and provide regular feedback to students and parents

Collaborate with Simone's Tutoring specialists to promote accessible and inclusive learning

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, Special Education, Education, Linguistics, Sign Language Interpretation, or a related field

MOHRE Tutor Permit or eligibility to obtain

Minimum 2 years' experience teaching International Sign or working in international Deaf communities

Demonstrated proficiency in International Sign

Preferred Qualifications

Professional certification in sign language interpretation or Deaf education

Experience participating in international Deaf events or organisations

Experience teaching learners from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds

Knowledge of multiple national sign languages in addition to International Sign

Experience working with children and adults

UAE Licensing Requirements

Tutors and educational specialists operating in the UAE are required to hold a valid MOHRE Tutor Permit or equivalent work authorisation. Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, the relevant permit before providing in-person services. Please ensure compliance with UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation regulations.
