Role Context

The Instrumentation Supervisor – Control Systems will supervise and participate in maintenance activities involving field instruments, analytical equipment, pneumatic devices, control loops, alarm systems, trip functions, and emergency shutdown systems. Work will be performed in operating areas under approved HSE requirements, maintenance procedures, and Permit to Work controls. The role will coordinate Technicians, Fitters, and contractor personnel while verifying that maintenance and commissioning work is completed correctly, safely, and within assigned time standards. Accurate records, reliable spare‑parts planning, and early identification of control‑system faults will be central to maintaining plant availability and process safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, and analytical instruments.
• Supervise maintenance activities involving process control systems and associated field equipment.
• Perform inspections and functional tests to verify instrument accuracy, response, and operating condition.
• Diagnose faults affecting transmitters, switches, indicators, control valves, analyzers, actuators, and control loops.
• Repair or replace defective instrument components according to approved technical procedures.
• Verify completed work before returning equipment or control loops to operation.
• Supervise assigned Technicians, Fitters, and contractor personnel during maintenance and installation work.
• Allocate work according to technical competence, job priority, equipment criticality, and maintenance schedules.
• Monitor job progress and ensure work is completed within approved time and quality requirements.
• Provide technical direction during complex instrument and control‑system maintenance.
• Inform the Maintenance Supervisor when additional personnel, specialist assistance, or resources are required.

• Verify ESD inputs, outputs, alarms, trips, shutdown logic, and final control actions as assigned.
• Identify discrepancies discovered during shutdown‑system testing and arrange timely corrective action.
• Troubleshoot minor control‑system problems and report major faults requiring specialist engineering support.
• Maintain accurate records of ESD test results, defects, corrective work, and outstanding actions.
• Support plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and major maintenance activities.
• Participate in the testing and commissioning of new plants, modified systems, and replacement equipment.
• Confirm that new installations meet approved drawings, specifications, operating requirements, and safety standards.
• Assist with loop checks, functional testing, cause‑and‑effect verification, and equipment handover.
• Report commissioning deficiencies and monitor their correction before final acceptance.
• Ensure workshop facilities, calibration devices, and test equipment are used correctly.
• Maintain instruments, tools, safety equipment, and test devices in safe working condition.
• Arrange repair or replacement of damaged, inaccurate, or unserviceable tools and safety gear.
• Protect specialist test equipment from misuse, contamination, or avoidable damage.

• Estimate future spare requirements based on failure history, equipment condition, and planned maintenance.

• Identify shortages that could affect plant reliability or maintenance execution.
• Verify that received spares and equipment meet the required technical specifications.
• Review maintenance records, fault reports, logbooks, alarm indexes, and trip records.
• Ensure maintenance history accurately reflects equipment faults, work completed, and components replaced.
• Analyse recurring alarms, trips, failures, and repair patterns to identify improvement opportunities.
• Collect technical data from operating areas and contribute to section progress reports.
• Provide information for method statements, risk assessments, and maintenance planning.
• Initiate near‑miss reports when unsafe events or potential hazards are observed.
• Implement approved functional policies, procedures, operating standards, and internal controls.
• Comply with Permit to Work requirements and confirm that required isolations are established.
• Follow approved HSE procedures, sustainability guidelines, legislation, and ADNOC Codes of Practice.
• Participate in emergency‑response duties as an assigned team member.
• Conduct or support toolbox talks before maintenance and commissioning work.

Ideal Profile

• Diploma in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• A Secondary School Certificate with a recognised vocational trade certificate may also be considered.
• Minimum 6 years of experience repairing and maintaining instrument and control equipment in a large industrial plant.
• Previous experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, gas processing, energy, or continuous‑process facilities is preferred.
• Hands‑on knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, and analytical instruments.
• Practical experience maintaining process‑control equipment, control loops, alarms, trips, and shutdown functions.
• Experience testing emergency shutdown systems and identifying control‑system discrepancies.
• Ability to troubleshoot transmitters, control valves, switches, actuators, analyzers, and associated equipment.
• Familiarity with plant shutdown, commissioning, modification, and equipment handover activities.
• Ability to interpret instrument drawings, loop diagrams, cause‑and‑effect charts, manuals, and technical specifications.
