Overview

Instrument Engineer - Maintenance in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy engineering role focused on planning, supervising, and supporting maintenance activities for instrument and control systems across plant operations. The role supports ADNOC Group by ensuring reliable equipment performance, effective preventive and corrective maintenance execution, safe troubleshooting, shutdown support, and close coordination between operations, mechanical, electrical, and maintenance teams.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and supervise maintenance activities for a wide range of instrument and control systems within plant operations.
  • Coordinate with operations, mechanical, electrical, and maintenance teams to ensure reliable functioning of instrument and control equipment.
  • Support operations and maintenance teams during equipment testing, troubleshooting, routine surveillance, and startup activities.
  • Provide field technical support during critical maintenance activities to resolve equipment problems with minimum downtime.
  • Ensure preventive, breakdown, and shutdown maintenance activities are planned, resourced, and executed effectively.
  • Evaluate, allocate, and arrange manpower requirements for daily maintenance plans and shutdown activities.
  • Assess workload, backlog, and work plans, then coordinate with relevant teams to complete planned maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor resources and ensure compliance with agreed work plans, maintenance schedules, and operational priorities.
  • Monitor and control the availability of required materials, spare parts, consumables, and tools in the correct quality and quantity.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures, recurring defects, and non-scheduled shutdowns.
  • Recommend corrective actions and reliability improvements to increase equipment availability and reduce future failures.
  • Provide input for major maintenance plans, upgrades, obsolescence reviews, and the division’s five‑year rolling business plans.
  • Support development, implementation, and commissioning of new projects related to instrumentation and control systems.
  • Review technical requirements, specifications, maintenance needs, and project deliverables to optimize cost and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Participate in technical bid evaluation and inspection of received materials to confirm quality, specifications, and operational suitability.
  • Monitor contractor performance for assigned maintenance and project works to ensure quality, safety, and required standards.
  • Support seamless coordination between operations and maintenance teams to ensure planned maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance processes, equipment reliability, and plant operational performance.
  • Follow applicable company policies, HSE procedures, maintenance standards, and ADNOC Code of Practices.
  • Prepare maintenance updates, technical inputs, and progress reports for management and relevant stakeholders.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor Degree in Instrumentation and Control, Electronics Engineering, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in instrument and control engineering and maintenance.
  • Experience within a large industrial organization is required, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of instrumentation systems, control systems, plant equipment, and maintenance execution.
  • Experience supporting preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, shutdown maintenance, and critical field troubleshooting.
  • Ability to coordinate with operations, mechanical, electrical, maintenance, and contractor teams.
  • Good understanding of equipment testing, routine surveillance, startup activities, commissioning support, and maintenance planning.
  • Experience in manpower planning, workload assessment, backlog monitoring, resource coordination, and spare parts control.
  • Strong capability in root cause analysis, failure investigation, reliability improvement, and problem resolution.
  • Ability to review technical requirements, support bid evaluations, and inspect materials against required specifications.
  • Strong communication, coordination, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work safely in plant environments and support reliable equipment performance with minimum downtime.
