Overview

Instrument and Control Engineer - Maintenance in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy opportunity for an experienced instrumentation and control professional with strong knowledge of plant maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance planning, root cause analysis, contractor coordination, shutdown support, and control system reliability. The role supports ADNOC Group operations by planning and supervising maintenance activities for a wide range of instrument and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise maintenance activities for instrument and control systems to ensure reliable functioning of plant equipment and control assets.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with operations, mechanical teams, electrical teams, contractors, consultants, and other support functions.
• Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams for equipment testing, troubleshooting, routine surveillance, start‑up activities, and field problem resolution.
• Establish smooth coordination between operations and maintenance teams to ensure planned maintenance activities are completed safely and on schedule.
• Provide field‑level technical support during critical maintenance activities to resolve equipment problems with minimum downtime.
• Evaluate manpower requirements for daily preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, and shutdown maintenance plans.
• Allocate and arrange skilled resources based on work priorities, equipment criticality, workload, backlog, and approved maintenance plans.
• Assess workload, backlog, and work plans, then coordinate with relevant sections to ensure timely completion of assigned activities.
• Monitor resource availability and arrange manpower, tools, spares, consumables, and materials required to comply with agreed work plans.
• Monitor and control the quality and quantity of required materials, spare parts, consumables, and tools to ensure continuous availability.
• Conduct and implement Root Cause Analysis for equipment failures, repeated defects, and non‑scheduled shutdowns.
• Recommend practical solutions to improve equipment reliability, availability, maintainability, and safe operation.
• Provide input for forthcoming major maintenance, system upgrades, obsolescence issues, and long‐term asset planning.
• Support integration of major maintenance and upgrade requirements into the division's 5‑year rolling business plans.
• Provide technical support for development, implementation, commissioning, and handover of new projects related to instrumentation and control systems.
• Review technical design requirements, control system specifications, and maintenance considerations to optimize cost and ensure compliance with standards.
• Participate in defining technical requirements, technical bid evaluation, and inspection of materials received at site.
• Verify that received materials meet specifications, quality expectations, and operational suitability before use.
• Monitor contractor performance for assigned works to ensure compliance with required quality, technical standards, schedule, and HSE expectations.
• Plan, supervise, and coordinate activities in the assigned area to meet section objectives and maintenance execution targets.
• Train and develop assigned staff on relevant technical skills, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting practices, and safe work methods.
• Provide input for department and section budgets and assist in implementing approved budgets and work plans.
• Investigate and highlight significant cost, schedule, resource, or performance variances to support effective control and corrective action.
• Implement approved department and section policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures in line with company and international standards.
• Comply with applicable legislation, legal regulations, HSE policies, sustainability guidelines, and ADNOC Code of Practices.
• Contribute to approved performance objectives by supporting equipment availability, reliability improvement, maintenance completion, and operational efficiency.
• Design and implement practical tools and techniques to improve maintenance quality, planning efficiency, and operational process performance.
• Identify process improvements based on best practices and ISO standards to support intelligent solutions for maintenance challenges.
• Provide inputs for section MIS reports, progress reports, maintenance updates, and management reporting requirements.
• Maintain regular communication with line managers, peers, internal teams, external consultants, third‑party service providers, and government agencies when required.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor Degree in Instrumentation and Control, Electronics, or an equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in instrument and control engineering and maintenance within a large industrial organization.
• Experience in the Oil and Energy industry is preferred, especially within refinery, gas processing, petrochemical, upstream, downstream, or large plant operations.
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation maintenance, control systems, equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, breakdown response, and shutdown maintenance.
• Practical experience supporting equipment testing, routine surveillance, plant start‑up activities, commissioning, and field maintenance execution.
• Ability to evaluate workload, manage backlog, allocate resources, and coordinate with operations and other maintenance sections.
• Strong understanding of spares, consumables, tools, materials planning, technical specifications, and material inspection.
• Experience in Root Cause Analysis for equipment failures, non‑scheduled shutdowns, chronic defects, and reliability improvement actions.
• Ability to support major maintenance plans, upgrade planning, obsolescence management, and long‑term business planning inputs.
• Experience reviewing technical requirements, participating in technical bid evaluation, and monitoring contractor performance.
• Good understanding of company procedures, ISO‑based improvements, HSE requirements, sustainability expectations, and international maintenance standards.
• Ability to prepare MIS inputs, progress reports, technical updates, and maintenance performance summaries.
• Strong communication, planning, supervision, coordination, and technical problem‑solving skills.
• Comfortable working mainly in an air‑conditioned environment with occasional site visits that may involve exposure to heat, humidity, and dust.
