Role Context: The Human Rights Compliance Manager acts as the central owner for individual human rights and environmental impact cases within Amazon ‘s Global Remediation and Investigation Team. The position manages cases from initial intake and risk assessment through investigation, remediation, verification and stakeholder response. By combining human rights expertise with structured case management and supplier engagement, the role helps protect workers, strengthen supply chain resilience, maintain customer trust and improve the effectiveness of Amazon ‘s wider sustainability and responsible sourcing programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of human rights and environmental impact cases from initial intake through final verification and closure.
- Serve as the case-level Single Threaded Leader for escalated supply chain matters within the assigned region.
- Assess allegations, audit findings, worker grievances and external escalations against established human rights criteria.
- Determine appropriate investigation and remediation approaches based on case severity, available evidence and operational risk.
- Coordinate investigations into alleged human rights, labor or environmental impacts.
- Work directly with suppliers and service providers to establish practical corrective action plans.
- Develop preventive measures that address underlying causes rather than only immediate compliance gaps.
- Verify evidence demonstrating that identified findings and escalated issues have been effectively resolved.
- Conduct supplier or service provider site visits when direct assessment or remediation guidance is required.
- Evaluate remediation effectiveness and determine whether additional actions are necessary before case closure.
- Manage cases within established service level requirements while maintaining investigation quality and documentation standards.
- Apply existing remediation frameworks consistently while adapting approaches to unique case circumstances.
- Maintain complete case histories with clear evidence, decisions, rationale, actions and outcomes.
- Protect data integrity within case management systems used for human rights due diligence and trend analysis.
- Identify recurring themes across the case portfolio and elevate systemic risks to regional remediation leadership.
- Analyze case information to uncover emerging labor, supplier or social impact concerns.
- Contribute practical lessons from completed cases to standardized remediation protocols and operational guidance.
- Recommend improvements to standard operating procedures, case frameworks and investigation processes.
- Collaborate with Legal, PR, HR, sourcing and other internal teams when cases involve complex stakeholder considerations.
- Build alignment among stakeholders where legal, reputational, commercial or operational priorities differ.
- Support stakeholder response coordination during sensitive or escalated human rights matters.
- Engage suppliers professionally while maintaining clear expectations for corrective action and evidence.
- Apply Amazon ‘s Global Human Rights Principles and Supply Chain Standards when evaluating supplier-related impacts.
- Support integration of human rights and environmental due diligence into wider business processes.
- Maintain awareness of international labor standards and established human rights frameworks.
- Share operational knowledge through case shadowing, informal coaching and team discussions.
- Mentor junior specialists when required and help improve consistency in case handling.
- Participate in initiatives that strengthen the Human Rights and Social Impact program ‘s investigation and remediation capability.
Ideal Profile
- Experience in compliance program management, governance, legal, audit, risk, loss prevention or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated background managing investigations, issue resolution or remediation programs.
- Strong working knowledge of human rights principles, labor standards and remediation methods.
- Experience investigating sensitive allegations and assessing supporting evidence.
- Proven ability to coordinate effectively with Legal, PR, HR, sourcing and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to recognize patterns across multiple cases and data sources.
- Able to manage several active investigations simultaneously while meeting established SLA requirements.
- Strong written documentation skills with the ability to record evidence, findings and decisions clearly.
- Comfortable making case-level decisions independently within established frameworks.
- Willingness to travel to supplier facilities when investigation or remediation activities require site presence.
- Experience using case management systems and maintaining high data quality standards.
- Professional auditing, risk or compliance credentials are advantageous.
- Knowledge of ILO standards, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights or comparable international frameworks is preferred.
- Previous exposure to global supply chains, manufacturing or supplier compliance environments is valuable.
- Experience supporting crisis communication or complex stakeholder coordination during escalations is beneficial.
- Fluency in Hindi, Bengali or Nepali would be advantageous.
